I’m about out of pracitce with the End of Day… I was distracted by a “minor” project last week which meant Kelly and Dave stepped up to bat two nights each as I’d no time to organise the editors… What? You think we have a rota for the EOD decided in advance??
First up today, we have Jake from the CSC with the top 5:
Hi, Jake from the CSC here. We’ve been busy busy busy today, as is normal on the CSC floor! Even more so there’s a few people at home flu’d up, so we’ve all been taking calls today.
It’s due to snow tonight in Sheffield, so it might be a snowy Thursday which’ll make it interesting, however I’ve just got bought my first car, so could be a dangerous combination! Our top 5 calls today have been as follows:
1, Email queries, you may or may not know, the email spam protection system we use is in the process of migrating from Positni to Ironport – more information on this is available. Usually a refresh of the mail component alleviates any problems.
2, Fault updates, as there’s no other way to keep updated on a fault if you can’t access your Internet than to give us a call. (Ed: Well, you could give us your mobile number and we’ll send you SMS updates as well…) Our faults team will text and call when we can to keep customer’s in the loop, and often it’s a case of providing the latest update so the customer knows where the latest progress.
3, Provisioning Updates, the recent uptake on our House Move special offer has added more Home Phone customers and as these generally take two weeks to complete, we’ll often get asked for a progress update. There’s also the new broadband provisioning, which we can check up on there and then.
4, Billing, Besides the normal calls to update card and submit new Direct Debits, there’s been a handful of accounts which haven’t been billed on the normal billing date, because we’ve had to be sure the VAT changes we’ve introduced don’t impact the Billing databases. Fortunately, there’s been no major problems, and the reduced rates on all broadband packaged are now being passed on. Further information on this is available.
5, Router Configurations, the new firmware and instructions provided with the routers have resulted in a massive reduction in router configuration calls to what we’d normally see. The firmware problem we experienced last week only lasted a few days and there’s just been the odd router here and there that needs a bit of help getting configured.
That’s Wednesday’s CSC End of Day
Thanks Jake!
Spence from Marketing updates us:
Just the three Marketeers in today, as Shailini has been down in London for meetings today, and Chris has been working from home.
Amy, yet again has been planning new offers for our affiliate partners and Gav has been working on some emails we need to send out soon. Whilst I’ve been continuing to look at the Sales journeys and what improvemtns we can make.
This is pretty much a large ongoing project so is likely to be in most of my end of day messages for now and the next few weeks!
Finally, we’re all hoping for some early festive snow to fall in Sheffield tonight…so we can build a Plusnet snowman! We never seem to get proper snow here

Til the next time,
Spence.
Cheers Spence
Bob has a late entry…
We’ve been one down today on the Comms desk today as Mand has been enjoying a day’s leave. That’s left Matt to take the problem investigation helm in between meetings and spam… err emailing our customer base
He’s also been looking after development change controls.
James has mainly been manning the forums however being the nice chap he is he did take a brisk (and no doubt extremely cold) walk to the Post Office earlier so he could personally make sure one of our customers got a router they were overdue.
When I IM’d Chris to ask what he’d been doing he didn’t reply, so I’m going to assume he’s done (and is still doing) nothing. After what he did to my desk yesterday – http://community.plus.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/tinsel_desk.jpg – I’m not sure I’m talking to him yet anyway!

I’ve been up to the eyeballs the IronPort migrations again today. I’ve prepped an email send for tomorrow morning, been investigating problems, peer reviewing some content changes whilst being on hand to support the CSC.
I’m going to leave it at that ’cause I’m conscious that it’s now 5:32pm and Colin’s waiting for my submission. Here’s your random link for the day – http://byronknoll.googlepages.com/ping.html – When I first saw this I presumed it would be extremely easy but the second axis certainly does make things a tad trickier!
I’ve just realised that 3 weeks today is Christmas Eve, yikes!
Colin
what kind of snow do we get in Sheffield then? Does Santa fly over with a spray can?
Out of pracitce (sic) with your spell checker as well by the look of it.. lol
