End of Day: 21st November

November 21st, 2008 at 17:41 by Tamlyn Rhodes

We’re doing rather better with EOD submissions today. There’s a bunch of links and something even more exciting!

Today in Web Dev, James has been doing test upgrades to WordPress on the community site & making the new help assistant search more shiny. Sam, Gary, Nick & Mark have all been working on various aspects of the business product refresh. Jonny’s been doing 1-to-1 catch-up meetings, making the internal iGoogle-style dashboard that Dan and I have been working on look nice, and, with myself, Sam & Tony from Dev, brainstorming ways to improve how design ties in to our development life-cycle. Kelly’s been training the Products & Major Business teams on how to make better use of our task management system. Pete’s been getting square grid-shaped eyes from staring at speadsheets all day. Phil has been continuing work on the line checker. Wojtek’s finished off work on the upgrade process. Colin helped me get my alpha box working again (I swear I didn’t break it!), helping James, helping Duffy and doing other essential jobs. Duffy has been reduced to a jibbering wreck by my advanced-ish JavaScript workshop earlier. Sorry about that.

Right, I’m off to cook some Cucumber a la Beef.

Jenny from HR:

Well, it’s Friday, so here’s a quick update on what the HR team have been doing this week:

Gemma:
Lealta briefings to managers
Co-ordinate induction
Development role profiles
Employee relations

Barbara:
Report writing session
‘Flu jab timings
CIPHR security
Admin for issue of Lealta cards

Amanda:
People Place planning
Succession planning
Creating next MDLP module
Operational Review

Jennifer:
Christmas party organisation
Staff grading and reward comparison
Transport and accommodation bookings
Start planning next PnPG meeting

See you Monday!

Adam from the Faults Team:

Alex has been doing faults which need testing before going to BT.

Tom, Peter and Ian have been hammering our slightly lower than usual oldest tickets over 24 hours, to put us in a good state over the weekend.

Rich has been doing the miscellanous jobs within the faults team such as Retests and Escalations along with some statement aboiut Telephone Faults.

Tony has been dealing with the speed faults that have been raised to BT.

Myself, I’ve been dealing with Dropping Connection faults and got stung with a five cup tea round, when I was only supposed to make two.

I’m back in tomorrow so I’m going to make the most of the weekend I have now.

Mattizza from Commzizzle:

Today has mostly been a day of flying sauce sachets and confusing riddles. In celebration of this I will attempt another haiku end of day (or possibly give up on that and just make it rhyme… actually it may even end up being a rap. How hip (hop) are we?)

James to the mic first with the 1337 forum skillz
he killz
writin posts and blogs with skillz
Mand rockin problems, she got dems flockin
developers shockin’ systems when the system’s shockin’
meetin’ and greetin’, change controls beaten
tasks defeatin like a military greeting

Wow, really starting to flow here. Do you feel me? DO YOU?

Chris been on the blogs dialoguing like an epilog
trying hard to do a better job
hob nobbing in the forums with Jimbob
guiding folks like a pedagog
Poor Bob
heard nothing from his gob
as he slogs through email jobs
gets mobbed by comms cos he the scapegoat hangdog
As for me the first time rhymer
old timer? not really but I ain’t no minor
Been a spamming and a cramming
ramming inboxes to jamming
diagramming reprogramming never shamming or a damning.

Word.

Ah cr- er, drat. forgot the random link. Here, this should keep you busy – we’re up to level 34.
If you can’t get past level 1, shame on you – it’s right in front of your face. If you want help we have a thread in the chit chat forum.

Whoops. Your final link doesn't work!

Grid-shaped eyes aren't the half of it.. I can see pie charts when I close my eyes now. The link should work now by the way.

Corrected it so it points to the relevant thread :)

To add to that - The link of the day is courtesy of T-Bone. Thanks Tony for ruining productivity for the next week or so! ;)

I hope accounts will be revealing the reduced rates when the VAT reduction comes into effect on 1st December.
