End of Day: 5th November

November 5th, 2008 at 19:33 by Dave Tomlinson

Remember remember the 5th November. 403 years ago today Guy Fawkes and his conspirators attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament. And today we’re still celebrating, although I haven’t seen any kids asking for a “penny for the guy”.

Right now it’s 6:30pm and I’m sat alone on the product and marketing floor and all I can hear in the background is the sound of fireworks going off. Kind of a little bit eerie really because as I can’t see any of the fireworks from where I am. So I’ve decided to relocate to the first floor and pay a visit to the Cancellations Team which is where start off this end of day with Kev:

It’s been the usual today, with all of the team working hard in helping customers onto the right package for them and generating MAC keys for migrations.

Paul has been helping our colleagues in South Africa and Sally has been helping our Business customers who now have a dedicated business cancellation line.

Laura, Matt and Heather have all been helping out with taking calls when they are coming in and working on our provisioning workflows so that things stay on track. Joe has spent his day making drinks for everyone (I’m sure he spends most of his day next to the kettle), and Kelly has been in meetings for most of the day.

Hopefully the team can spare a thought tonight for myself and Adam as we’ll miss most of the fireworks as we are both here on the evening shifts today.

That’s all from me, hope everyone enjoys Bonfire Night.

And next and last today is Bob from the Comms Team:

Today I’ve been in meetings. That is all. Well, OK then it’s not the only thing I’ve been doing but with no less than 8 of the blighters there’s been little room for anything else.

Chris has been checking on the forums most of the day. He’s also posted the odd service status and been to a few meetings. I did ask him what meetings he had been to, but was greeted with the response “that one just then”, so make of that what you will! ;)

Mand has been working on one of our recent Home Phone offers and been looking after problem investigation and development change controls.

Finally, Matt’s been working on an up-and-coming newsletter, and has also been making sure the CSC are up to date with all the latest developments here at Plusnet Towers.

In a bid to find something not related to the presidential election, it turns out that Microsoft fully laid Windows 3.11 to rest the other day. Did you know that they still use Windows 3.11 to power the in-flight entertainment systems on some Virgin and Qantas long-haul jets? Got to be better than Windows RG edition though eh?

Well I wonder if anyone is selling any roast chestnuts out there, or maybe toffee apples. Good Bonfire Night fodder. Well it’s nearly time for me to head home, think I’ll be enjoying The Daily Show’s coverage of the US election rather than venturing out in the cold to see the fireworks. Whatever you’re doing have fun and check back in tomorrow.
