End of Day: 4th November

November 4th, 2008 at 17:40 by Colin Ogilvie

Tuesday has come and Tuesday has gone (almost) and it’s hopefully been a good day both internally, and externally. Let’s see, shall we.

Ian from the Faults team is up first:

I’m one of the lucky two joining the faults team for a months secondment, starting yesterday. While I am already capable of dealing with faults, I’m sure with the help of the experienced faults guys I will be much more knowledgeable by the end of the month! :)

Today, myself and Alex have been working through new faults which need testing prior to raising with our suppliers. Some of these faults turn out to be customer equipment or setup issues, it’s our job to filter these out and ensure they are resolved before raising the remaining, genuine faults, with our suppliers for further investigation.

Tony has spent most of his day dealing with Home Phone faults from start to end, from initial testing through to ensuring the problem is fully resolved within a timely manner. Sometimes these need chasing with BT Openreach for updates however Tony’s capable hands keep things moving along and customers informed.

The other members of the team, that’s Munky (Andy), Adam, Pete and Rich have been working through existing supplier faults, ensuring they are correctly diagnosed and seeing things through to fault resolution.

Keith is in charge of the team this week so has been doing various manager things, keeping an eye on ticket pools to ensure all faults are dealt with in a timely manner, and basically ensuring the rest of us are doing our jobs properly! As if that wasn’t enough he has been helping out with fault testing when he has time.

Mand from Comms now:

Evening,

Bob was whining about everything as usual. In other news he has made some progress on his tasks for the upcoming Ironport migration.

Chris has been in and out of the forums (yes, exactly like the Hokey Cokey ;) ). He’s also been co-ordinating some upcoming training for our CSC teams.

I’ve been working on problems, both validating the new problems raised and prioritising some existing ones so that we fix the most important ones first.

Matt has been doing ‘various things’ to which we will conclude he did nothing except what I know about, namely welcoming Madasafish customers to the Community site, change controls for development and some Home Phone tasks.

Well I’m off home to see if I can stay awake to see who wins the presidential election (doubtful to be honest) so I’ll leave you with a random link: http://woodgears.ca/eyeball/

Have a good one.

Mand

and finally… John from the Networks team:

Standard fare from the networks team today:

Net ops
upgrades, decommissioning, platform monitoring and customer tickets – and apparently Aaron is quite excited about all the brand new packages set to roll into the PAYH application vault in the next two days, which is nice.

Net dev
Brightview migrations, Ironport, lots of meetings and running about in general, and Josh has been fighting with the software our mail platform uses.

Databases
Assisting dev with problem fixes and db design, monitoring the databases, applying fixes to our off-line reporting service and wondering which of these categories we most resemble – http://www.dbazine.com/oracle/or-articles/burleson13

Ooh I like that game - got a score of 2.0. Would've been lower if not for a couple of times I made really big errors. :(
