Those of you who’ve been following our recent Service Status Announcements and blog posts will know that we’re currently in the process of migrating all of our customers to a new anti-spam platform based on hardware supplied by the well-respected email security experts, IronPort.
We’re now well into the migration plan, and we’re hoping to have everybody moved across over the next fortnight.
We’re sure a lot of you will have questions about the migration so we’ve knocked together a quick FAQ below that should hopefully answer some of the more commonly asked ones.
Me again, two days in a row. Don’t think I’ve done that before. I’d say it was drawing towards the end of a busy week but for a lot of people here there’ll be a lot of extra hours being put in over the weekend as work continues on the VAT changes. It really is amazing how many different prices we actually charge for all the different services we offer and all the things that go with them. More…
As we’re approaching the festive season I’ve been offered some prize Community Site real estate to impart some truly exciting news on the plans that one of Santa’s performance-focused management elves has developed as a Christmas Incentive for the CSC here at Plusnet Towers.
We have it on good authority from Santa’s list of who’s been naughty and nice that there are going to be plenty of 802.11n wireless routers, dongles and shiny new MacBooks beautifully wrapped and nestling beneath Christmas trees this year. So we anticipate that we’ll be getting a few calls from stressed-out customers who’ll need a little bit of extra help (but remember if you can get online, our Support Pages offer a wealth of information!)
From Monday 1st December 2008 the VAT rate will drop from 17.5% to 15%. We’re pleased to confirm that we will pass on the benefits to our customers. Subscription charges made on or after 1st December will have VAT charged at 15%. This applies to new and existing customers.
We’ve put together a FAQ to answer some of the questions we’re being asked.
What are Plusnet doing about the VAT changes?
We’ll be passing on the reduction in VAT to our customers in their regular monthly subscriptions. Some ‘one-off’ charges such as postage and packing on hardware won’t be changed.
Well looks like today is part one of a double header for me as not only am I the editor today but also tomorrow. I guess this is my reward for not winning the lottery. Oh well, back to the drawing board I guess on that one. More…
Hullo! I’m the editor again today. I’ve been in the office all day today, instead of being stuck at home waiting for plumbers. Apart from that, it’s been a similar day: VAT changes and role profiles!
What about the rest of Plusnet? More…
Ofcom has recently announced a ‘Code of Practice’ to make sure new customers are given a realistic expectation of the speeds they‘ll get with their broadband. You may remember us blogging about it when it was first announced.
During the signup process we’ll now provide information about the speeds they can expect on their line once broadband is activated. This information will then be made available on the member centre for later reference. More…
Tuesday draws to a close! Today I’ve been stuck at home waiting for a plumber to turn up and fix my shower. Their estimated mid-morning very quickly turned into mid-afternoon, so I’ve been using our VPN to finish of role profile documentation and Skype to talk to our development teams about the upcoming VAT changes. What has everyone else been up to?

We’ve talked recently about moving to a “Network IVR” and we’ve told Force9 and Free-Online customers about a change to our main telephone number. I’d like to spend a bit of time telling you what an IVR actually is, how ours works and the changes we’re going to make.
Wikipedia defines an IVR as an “Interactive voice response, which is a technology that allows a computer to detect voice and keypad inputs. IVR systems can respond with pre-recorded or dynamically generated audio to further direct users on how to proceed. IVR systems can be used to control almost any function where the interface can be broken down into a series of simple menu choices. In telecommunications IVR systems generally scale well to handle large call volumes”.

You can’t have missed today’s news that Chancellor Alistair Darling has cut the rate of VAT to 15%. Great news for all of us I’m sure you’ll agree as we’re all now counting our pennies. The VAT change takes effect from 1st December 2008 and will last until the end of 2009.
We’re pleased to confirm that we will pass on the benefit of this reduction to all of our customers, including our broadband subscription and phone packages. Existing customers’ subscription charges will also be charged with the new VAT rate. More…
