End of Day: 24th October

October 24th, 2008 at 18:55 by Peter Jackson

Fed up of hearing about the recession?  Me too.  Miserable Friday eh? And the clocks go back on Sunday so now it’ll be darker early in the afternoon.. boo I hate Winter. Never mind, you know we’ll try and keep you feeling warm and cosy here on the Community Site.

If you’re already counting the pennies why not check out the latest offer if you’ve not already – you might save a few bob by taking Home Phone.

Just for a change let’s start today’s end of day report with Jenny from HR:

Yesterday, we had George Clooney come to visit and today we had Orlando Bloom. Not really, of course. Just the guy who fixes the AirCon and has got a bit of a sense of humour. And it has been getting hot in here…when you work in a big glass building temperatures soon start to rise, even in October. (blimey.. this is all going a bit Mills and Boon isn’t it? – Ed)

In between swooning, the HR team did manage to get some work done this week…

I’ve in a good mood because I’ve managed to see a couple of things I’ve been working on for a while finally come into their own. One of these was childcare vouchers, and feedback from the voucher company rep was that it was one of the best road shows she’d ever done. Hopefully in the next few weeks, eligible employees should start reaping the rewards of this benefit.

Barbs has been working on the adverts for internal vacancies. She’s been updating our HR records with info on new starters. Other updates she’s been doing include training records for learners our management training program and various role changes. Oooh, and she’s got ahead of the game, adding 2009 Bank Holidays to our records ahead of our booking breaks for next year.

Busy working on performance reviews, Gem’s done workshops for managers with Amanda and created a report on all the items we picked in our personal development plans. Now we’re ready to launch our Childcare Vouchers Scheme- and Lealta benefits cards will soon be at the ready – she’s updated the company induction with this info.

Diane’s been developing new role profiles and working with managers from CSC, Networks and Finance on completion of their departments’ roles.

Reviewing CSC pay scales following the skills matrix has been high on Amanda’s priorities alongside Gem and Barbs’. Amanda and I’ve been coming up with ideas for a ‘People Place’ on workplace with help from Kelly Dorset. 360` Feedback sessions have continued, with Amanda leading on the sessions and the rest of the team chipping in..

Anyway, that’s all from me…Barbs is hoping it’s Jonny Depp next week.

It must be the tropical heat they’ve been suffering over the past few days..  Here’s Chris in a more temperate clime.. it’s Comms:

Friday Friday, how we all adore Friday.

It’s Friday, just incase you hadn’t figured that out already. It’s been a mixed week on the Comms desk, it’s been constant work at 100mph.

Bob’s been beavering away on networks projects and being his usual non-tea-making self. I was all set to make him a brew this afternoon, but as I picked his cup up he started being childish and making odd noises so he didn’t get one.

Matt’s been casting a beady eye over a number of forums this week, as well as doing some other stuff which I can’t actually recall at the moment. I’m sure he’ll remind me shortly but I’ve already written this and can’t be bothered to edit it.

Mand’s been announcing a number of new offers internally and externally to make sure everyone’s aware of what’s going on in the wacky world of Plusnet.

I’ve been keeping my eye on freshly raised problems and ensuring that the more important ones are prioritised correctly. I’ve also taken to sitting here and beeping sporadically throughout the day.

That’s it from me, I’m off for a beer or 2.

Here’s Kev, who’s been working with out our options team:

It’s been a typically busy Friday with the team advising customers on the best broadband packages for them and assisting in cancellation requests.

Josef is doing his usual role of making tea for everyone (tea again! -Ed) , with Carl from our Customer Services team helping us out this week working through the cease order reports and who ran our team meeting today.

I’ve been busy working on some of the oldest tickets in our ticket pools, with Adam helping to setup some more computers because we are having a few new members added to our team soon.

Darren has been in on his day off to join in the team meeting and run several reports for the department. And Paul has been fairly quiet but working with our colleagues in South Africa.

Here’s James.. (yes, he’s still with the Products team):

I am currently the only person sat on the Products Desk.  This can mean only one thing. Ian, Maria and Rich have been in loads of meetings today!

Luke’s been doing his usual reporting work and I’ve been looking at hardware forecasting and some other things we can do to improve our current systems and processes.

This is the bit where I should have something witty to say, but it appears that looking at spreadsheets for a sustained period of time even removes any form of sarcasm from you.

Maybe it’ll get replenished if I drink some beer. I might just go and test that theory

And finally.. Here’s something I bet you didn’t know.  The voice of the speaking clock (dial 123 for the BT service from 01:00 GMT Sunday) will be Tinkerbell for three months.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Pete

p.s. I just noticed today that on the thumbnails for our Plusnet TV videos there definitely seems to be something about waving our arms about..  lol
