Well, half the week has been (and gone!) and there is only 2 days until the weekend. I can look forward, and hope for nice weather… Having taken the Tardy slip off Kelly, here’s the contributions for today.
First up today, we have Ben from the CSC:
There seems to be no nominated editor for today, so we can start off collating departmental posts here…
After a busy weekend we’re doing our best in the faults team to keep all of our tickets within SLA – we aim to investigate any fault reported to us within 6 hours. As a result, we spread ourselves across the different roles:
Tom has been working through the oldest tickets in turn and dealing with a long standing issue that has been escalated within BT.
Pete has also been working on the oldest tickets, but concentrating on speed faults.
Keith has been working on Home Phone faults but also investigating the first stages of faults that have been reported to us, mainly to make sure that all the relevant testing has been completed before the faults are sent off to BT for further investigation.
Brad has been working through the oldest tickets where customers are unable to get online at all and the fault has been reported through to BT.
Tony has been on his old favourite – speed faults (this makes him very happy indeed!)
Alex has also been working on speed faults that have been reported to us, which involves a lot of testing to make sure that a speed issue does actually exist, or if the speed problem is merely the symptom of another underlying issue.
Adam has been working on our repeat faults pool and has been looking after all the customers who need call backs out of our usual working hours.
I’ve been testing the newly reported intermittent connection and no synchronisation faults, talking to customers and raising the faults through to BT.That’s all for the faults team for this week, see you next time…
Next up is Amy from the desk behind me (Marketing):
Chris has been making a pretty powerpoint to show to the rest of the business
about the marketing and product team, as well as juggling some PR requests.Gavin has been working on more website improvements whilst sameer has been doing
some ad-hoc analysis for people across the business who are interested in how
various parts are performing.I have been working on some emails that we have started sending today, and found
many frustrating problems along the way, I now have a deeper technical understanding! And thats all from us as Spence is off today.
Bob from the Comms guys weighs in next:
It’s been business as usual on the Comms desk today with the exception of James who’s been away from his desk working on the comms for the recent cessation charge announcement that’s currently doing the rounds.
Chris has been in the forums today and has put a heavy dent in some of his task work. He’s also been reviewing Networks change controls but it’s been pretty quiet on that front.
Matt’s mainly been looking after problem investigation, development change controls and providing third line ad-hoc support.
As for me, I’ve been looking through some activation reporting, made the odd forum post here and there and been working on some prep-work for a mini-project.
That’s your lot. Link of the day today is to a embedded web version of one of my favourite old games for the Commodore 64, enjoy! – http://www.gameszoo.org/zgame.php?gid=buggyboy
Rys from deepest, darkest Development now:
Ah, the life of a programmer is less rich when he or she has to give up acres of desktop real estate for something a little smaller. 3840×1200, I’ll miss you.
As I lament the disappearance of my dual monitor setup at work, here are tales of wonder and lore from within the department….
Simon’s back from getting married. In Mauritius. We all feel really sorry for him having to be back at work, not. He’s been catching up with things that have happened since he left, before he gets back into the swings of things.
Elsewhere, Ben L, Rowan, Nigel and I kicked around some ideas for a more robust components system implementation. Also, Ben W’s been helping our remote team get their fixes to the staging platform, as we experience some comms issues with getting them direct access to some systems.
That’s about it, other than saying goodbye to Mel for the last time and Kat buying me some Vimto. Cheers to you both, especially Mel. Thanks for everything, we’ll miss you.
That’s your lot for today,
Colin
