End of Day: 28th August

August 28th, 2008 at 17:44 by Tamlyn Rhodes

Until today, the only way I could get my personal laptop online when at the office was by using my mobile phone as a modem and and using its data connection. It seemed kinda funny that I was sat in the head office of a major ISP and I couldn’t even get wifi access! Anyway we got it working properly today so I can be more mobile – yay!

So in the Web Team today, James and I have been doing JavaScript fun with the live search on the upcoming community knowledge base. I’ve also been reverse engineering AJAX calls in Shindig – why don’t people document these things? Duffy has mainly been loving HTML validation. Colin has been helping everyone with their miscellaneous computer woes. Grzegorz and Colin have been working on getting the Google Mini to index Metronet and Madasafish content. Sam has been fixing the slidey menu in the new My Account which was playing up in IE6. Jonny has been evaluating prototyping tools. Pete has been reviewing the PDF document that new customers get sent when they sign up.

Chris from Comms:

Arrrrghhhhh it’s 4.55pm and I’ve got 5 minutes to write the Comms EOD. I actually forgot it was my turn today, I can’t really blame the rota as I was the one who created it.

Well today in comms land Tinky-Winky has been beavering away on some problems and writing some service status posts. Dipsy has been helping out the prov team and has been in meetings, or so he says.

4 minutes to go.

La-la has been working through a list of home phone tasks and in some meetings. Po has been working on network change controls and also been in meetings.

3 minutes.

I smell bacon, apparently Bob’s eating the same Canadian Ham crisps that someone posted about in an EOD last week, I would go and find the link but I’ve only got 2 minutes left.

As a final message we’ve all been very impressed with a plugin for Firefox called Ubiquity, so that’s going to be my link today.

1 minute.

Denis from Networks:

Networks day as usualy busy.

Russell: was on problems
Michael has been working on problems too
Ben: internal servers consolidations, started looking at the authdns move and familiarised myself with MySQL stored procedures
Mike has been working on webmail and MySQL update work.
The Great news Mike, Sarah, Ade, and Bob have completed ftp servers consolidation.
Richard – great efforts in investigating: broken webstats server, slow DSL authentication, problems with akamai
Geoff has been working on mail platform documentation
Josh has been on project documentation and fixed My email
Ade has been working on EBB Ellacoya testing, meeting on Ironport integration for Manage My Mail

John from Business Support:

John from business support reporting… A relatively quite day here, everything nicely ticking over… Here’s what everyone has been doing.

Mark, along with heading up the ticket and call front, has been meeting a new hardware supplier and testing out some fancy new kit for our users.

Adam has been bothering Networks and BT to sort out a selection of problems customers have been having.

I’ve been tying up a few lose ends on our partner scheme, and looking forward to a visit to the Pub tomorrow afternoon.

Chris has been helping investigate a selection of issues and keeping our friends at BT Wholesale in check.

Sam and Dan have successfully managed to prevent a rather large amount of broadband lines being ceased, that would have resulted in much unhappiness.

Martin is taking a well deserved break and sunning himself in Spain.

Phils is sciving off I think, or it might be his day off.

See you later!
