End of Day: 26th August

August 26th, 2008 at 17:27 by Kelly Dorset

*zooooom!*. Did you see it? It’s gone already! The last bank holiday before Christmas. Cripes!

Back to work for everyone in Plusnet then. See what they got up to:

First up, Matt from Comms

Well… I’ve got a Mars bar and have just eaten the work third, however as I was still peckish I’ve started into the rest third (or is it the play third?) in the hope that it will inspire me to write this end of day and not either go to sleep or rush off out to go climbing (I’d say play football but I have no time for football at all). Here’s hoping.

Well, what has Comms been up to today?

Chris and I have once again been helping the faults team out, along with sorting the networks and development change controls respectively. (Oh here comes the ‘play’ third kicking in; I’ve just had a real urge to go home and get on Call of Duty 4. MUST WRITE!)

James has been in some meetings today including one between the hours of 12:00 and 12:45 which as far as I’m concerned should be outlawed. Poor James had to wait until nearly 1pm for his lunch and the rest of us had to wait until he got back to his desk before we could have any kind of break. Oh life is cruel sometimes.

Bob, finally, has been looking at problems today. Just to keep a trend in, he’s also been angry and has also invented a new word: Intradaditional. None of us are quite sure what it means, but it certainly sounds impressive. I guess it would be something along the lines of:

Intradaditional (adj.)
Anything that, on encountering for the first time, instantly gives the impression of being steeped within tradition and folklore.

Link? Good one. Er, automatic artistry for the win.

Andy B breaks his EOD cherry for the Web Team

Another day, another newbie on EOD duty for the Web Team.

My names Andrew. I write stuff, mainly for our support pages and system emails, but this varies from day to day.

Today I’ve been re-writing emails for our Faults checker, tidying up the hardware support section and working on problems. Duffy who sits next to me is knee deep in problems and support page editing.

Pete’s been away for most of the day swotting up on his first-aid knowledge so hopefully if anyone has an accident he’ll be able to sort us out. James Jonny and Gregorz have been fleshing out the plans for our Customer Generated Content project for most of the day. Mark has updated our hardware pdfs as well as working on system emails with Nick. Dans kicking ahead with improvements for our Faults checker and internal work forums.

Last but by no means least, Colin has left early today as he’s off to see High School Musical!

Last up Alex from the Customer Support Centre

A reasonably busy day in the CSC today. For team A its the last day of our shift pattern and we’re all looking forward to our two days off. Its the first day after the bank holiday and so we’re back to full steam workload wise after a quiet weekend and bank holiday.

As some of you may be aware we have experienced problems with access to certain websites on our network which has made up the bulk of both our calls and support tickets today. For further information on this issue you should see our service status page and community site forum.

We have also been dealing with a number of billing queries from customers checking their account details are up to date. Those pesky bank holidays have caused two days of queries to be condensed into one. Next on the list would be faults. People returning to work to find their session has gone stale often simply requiring a router reboot to resolve the problem. We also seem to have had a large number of calls with regards to house moves. It seems a lot of you are moving in spite of the credit crunch!

Well I’ll sign off here and I hope you all have a pleasant evening.

All done! Signing off.

Kelly
