Another week draws to a close and so it’s time for the final end of day for this week. We also have the bank holiday this week and a little bit of research we’ve seen suggests that around two thirds of people will be staying home over the weekend because of a combination of the current economic climate, the weather forecast and fuel prices. All in all means we’ll be keeping a close eye on the network so that everything performs for those that decide to go online.

But without further ado let’s proceed with the rundown of events happening around Plusnet today.

First up we have Chris from the Comms Team:

Friday Parr here with the Comms EOD. Not much been going on in Comms HQ again today as we’ve all been helping out the CSC. Bob’s been on problems, James on provisioning, myself and Matt on faults.

So that’s it, a short EOD from us today. Thanks for reading and if you are feeling a little bored over the weekend and want to take over the world, here’s some tips.

Next we have Mike from Networks:

Gricey here with the Networks EOD. Due to a combination of sunspots and the Large Hadron Collider, we’re quite thin on the ground today and as a result are having to rush our EOD. We have a fair bit going on, a lot of problems to squash and a lot of interesting projects to churn out (remind us to write a blog post). Somebody brought some fizzy cola bottles in which had us all bouncing off the walls, and we’re all looking forward to a well-deserved long weekend after an incredibly busy week.

Over next to Spence with the Marketing update:

Well, a rather quiet day here for Marketing. With Chris, Martyn, Amy and Shailini out of the office. Brian who’s been helping us out over the past two months has also left today, so many thanks to Brian for all his hard work on the brand refresh project, a great effort and he’ll be missed by the team!

The rest of us have been looking at some tweaks to the product pages, and are now are just looking forward to a nice long Bank holiday weekend.

My names Joe, I work on the Customer Service team.

The day started off well, We had a good laugh when Ryan decided to come in on his day off. He wasn’t too happy but decided to stay and help our early shift out by doing half a day’s overtime, it was needed. The csc has been busy these past weeks and it’s been an especially busy couple of days on CS, but we’ve all worked our hardest to make sure our work flows are all within service level and today’s been no different.

We’ve got Damien, who asked me to refer to him as the Welsh God by the way, doing his secondment with another team in the CSC, which I understand he’s enjoying loads and doing well at too. Although he is learning new skills it hasn’t affected his performance, well done boyo.

Our ticket pools haven’t been too mad today but we’ve had Carl and Julie clearing those out while the rest of us have been making sure we manage the calls. It seems the main focus today has been House moves as people are looking to move during there summer hols – so much for the credit crunch!! Also loads of customers have been contacting us looking to upgrade their packages as they have been using it more and more, it would seem the iPlayer and the Olympics with our Golden Brits is generating loads of interest online.

I’m now looking forward to my first full weekend off for a month or so, I hope the weather holds off for the bank holiday and I hope everyone has as good a time off as I’m going to have.

Lastly for today Nick from Web Dev:

This is my first EOD post I think, (woo!) so I’d better introduce myself. I’m Nick and I’m one of the Content Developers here at Plusnet.

So what have our merry band been busying themselves with today?

Well, I’ve been writing a new FAQ, helping Andy out with some support page fixes that he’s been doing and making some changes to our Welcome guide. Oddly, I’ve been strangely craving crisps all day and finally gave in to temptation about 3:30pm. I bought a packed of ‘Canadian Ham’ flavour ones. That’ll be bacon then.

What’s Mark’s been doing? Well he says he’s been in a ’sprucing’ mood apparently. I don’t think I’ve seen him cleaning up around the office with a duster. I think it means he’s been updating some of our PDF documents and emails.

G-Man has been officially renamed ‘Google-Man’ as he’s had his head buried in search improvements throughout today. Dan’s been improving the faults tool – good man.

Xmas came early for James today as a nice new graphics card landed on his desk. There were many gasps of surprise. No really. Actually, I think Colin’s secretly quite jealous as he’s been helping James set it up today. Colin’s also found time to finish coding new functionality for the website.

Jonny’s been really busy planning new stuff for the upgrade process and Kelly…well we’ve not seen much of Kelly as he’s been in meetings most of the day.

It’s a long Bank Holiday weekend isn’t it? I keep forgetting about that. Well I hope everyone has a relaxing one and we’ll see you on the other side. I’m off to investigate what other stupidly named crisp varieties there are…
