It’s been quite warm outside in Sheffield, but yet again, the Air Conditioning seems to be the cause of many complaints – it feels positively arctic at my desk just now. Thankfully, it’s the end of the week, so we can relax for two days.
First up in the chain today we have Hoppy from the Comms team (that’s Chris in case you’ve not been keeping up to date!):
Comms is teh r0×0r5

Hoppy: Forums, problems, endless jabber (instant messenger) help requests, trial work, training, hobbling. The link today is dedicated to Bob, who hasn’t been in the office. It’s his favourite singer:-
Michael Bubleand as it’s Friday here’s an added bonus link for those of you that find it difficult to get out of bed in the mornings
Hmm, I don’t think I’ll bother with that, thanks, Chris!
Next up, we have Amanda from the HR department.
We have had another busy but yet productive week, we welcomed via the Company Induction Elvis, Tony and Gavin.
We have done a couple of Employee handbook Q&A sessions and responded to feedback.
I met with Hays recruitment agency and they are now on our PSL and me, Gem and Simon Leary went to Creative Sheffield yesterday and learnt about Career Development, E learning solutions, on line recruitment and work psychology!!!!!
Diane has been working on creating a temporary contract of employment and the summer edition of the HR legal update which we will post next week.

Barbs is in Germany drinking lots of beer and Diane has flown to Crete for a lovely fortnights holiday…..
Cheers
Amanda
Arun from Development is next:
Hello everyone, this is Arun Appukuttan from the Dev department.
I am a part of the Teleworker team now, with Ben, Rys and Hijas. It’s for the second time, I am here in Sheffield, working as a Plusnetter
. And I am so grateful to whole Plusnet, for giving me immense help and encouragement, and also a second time to work in close with my friends. I really enjoy working with Ben and Rys, as they have been my good friends since I came here the first time. As Hijas told yesterday, we are looking forward to taking them with us when we go back home.

Well, about work, I am currently going through the Faults part of our work. My task is to alter the process to cope without the portal stuff, and make up a new faults site by modifying the existing one. I feel Faults is not the easiest part to work on, and so it may take sometime from my weekend enjoyments.
For Rys, He is off today and on Monday as well.
For Ben, he has been working on ADSL provisioning for migrated customers, trying hard to finish it off today. He has also been going through the UML design tools like Magic Draw, as it integrates well with eclipse.
For Hijas, he is working on Event Email administration tool.Looking forward for friday night and the weekend, as It has been a busy week for me and I need to set myself refreshed for next week’s work.
Next up we have Martyn from Marketing, who seems to have solved his Ferret problem!
No ferrets from us today thankfully. So with no animal related antics to report, we’ll crack straight into a more sensible end of day. I’ve been delivering some staff training today, as well as helping out with some bug fixing on our big project. Brian’s been busy squashing bugs too.
Oh wait, I said we were animal free but I’ve just asked Chris what he’s done today and he said “squirreling away with spreadsheets”. Not sure if that means he’s been hoarding spreadsheets in preparation for winter, but he’s had Excel on his screen pretty much all day so he must have been number crunching. Amy has been working with some of our affiliate partners again and Phil’s been hard at work with the sales team again too.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Adheel from the CSC brings us their Top 5:
Hey guys and gals, here’s the end of day for Friday from the CSC:
1) Provisioning Updates – A huge number of calls regarding orders seen in the CSC today, lost of customers chasing their activation dates as people looking to get their broadband service ready for a busy summer!
2) Router Settings – Always a popular one in these end of day postings, our customers calling in for router settings so they can get connected for the first time, or after a reset or setting up of a new router.
3) Fault Updates – Customers calling in to either give or request a update on their broadband faults, normally a call where another router has been tried and determining whether this has made a difference or not.
4) Email Set-ups – Again simply our customers calling in for settings for their email clients, setting up new email address or having problems with using the webmail site or its features.
5) Domains – Also an increase in the amount of domain related enquiries seen today, this being where customers calling in for details on either transferring domains into us for hosting or registration fee’s etc. Also the less commonly seen queries regarding domain records and configuring these to work as required.
Hope everyone has a good weekend, I’ll be watching the new batman movie tonight, and then going to opera in the park in Leeds tomorrow for a bit of culture (not anything to do with the fact i get a free ticket)
Nice!

Neil from Networks brings us this update:
Steve, and Jamie have been maintaining things on the IT Support front, fixing broken PC’s in our Customer Support centre, moving some of them around, testing Windows update server, and our new antivirus server which is to be implemented sometime soon. Matt has been plugging away at tickets with some assistance from Kev who has also been doing some housekeeping and hostmaster work on the PARBIN services front. Aaron has been our rock for those PARBIN customer who’ve needed our support today! We’ve also been documenting some more ticket processes. I’ve been putting a training schedule in place for my guys, approving change controls that are put in place to make sure we don’t muck up sensitive jobs like changes on live Databases etc which would cause lots of pain. I’ve also tried to keep on top of everything as a whole in Johns absence…
Si has been firefighting in between his usual roadmap work, a few high priority problems today but nothing we can’t handle up here with the assistance of Dunc, Rich and Mike making light work of it all. Dunc and Mike have kept our less critical problems down to a minimum and cleared off some general housekeeping stuff! Problems and documentation have been the order of the day for Rich too. He’s the guy who deployed the caching DNS fixes just in time to catch the vulnerability leak (and there were not many ISP’s who did this apparently) so give him a big pat on the back!
Carl has been implementing some changes that are needed to get the RADIUS platform used by the Mad as a Fish crowd migrated onto the PlusNet platform. He’s also had Dennis has resolved a few niggling issues with the VPN link between here and SA
Geoff has been doing some work on rebuilding our mail platforms and looking at Webmail whilst Ian takes care of some FTP consolidation work etc….
Thats about it! I’d imagine the majority of people in this office are going to apply just as much effort into their drinking tonight in various beer gardens in Sheffield. I know I am!
Until next week…
Neil
I hope everyone has a great weekend, and that there’s some nice weather.
Colin
"The link today is dedicated to Bob, who hasn’t been in the office. It’s his favourite singer."

Preferrer supplier list.
Plusnet parnership group?
lol, Opera in the Park? Never heard of that before... I think Adheel should try something more meaty - like, say, Wagner's Ring...
"work psychology!!!!!"
Five exclamations is a new world record. Very good work there.
[PJ in 'making a point' mode]None the wiser
I'm going to suggest a rule that if an EOD-contributor insists on using arcane terminology or acronyms that they are responsible for updating the O'glossary. Sound fair?
@Be3G: I tried to get Bob to post that one instead of his Bic biro effort a couple of days back. He didn't. Expect to see it soon...
Eh? That what? I'm confused...
The amazon reviews for the book titled 'penetrating wagner's ring'. Unfortunately most of them have been deleted now though.
