End of Day: 11th July

July 11th, 2008 at 18:16 by Tamlyn Rhodes

It’s a remote end of day today. I’m in London reporting on all the activity up in Sheffield. A, the wonders of the web (brought to you by PlusNet®).

In the Web Team today, Colin has, so he tells me, been rolling out some enhancements to the ticketing system for PUG, getting the Referrals Download as CSV onto Gamma testing and helping James with some testing. Rupert is continuing work on the My Account implementation in Framework. Nick has been bug fixing and updating some support content. Mark has been writing support docs for the D-Link DSL-320B Ethernet Modem as well as updating email template footers and testing problems. I’ve been reviewing our current upgrade process and documenting usability problems and suggested enhancements. And Andy has, in his own words, been working on “Problems Problems Problems Problems Problems Problems Problems Problems Problems Problems Problems Problems Rollout Rollout!”

John from Networks:

One or two issues within the Network arena this week that caused us a few heart flutters, but as usual the guys cracked on with them without any fuss.

Our main focus has been on stability and network balancing, this is likely to be the case for the coming few months, our problem numbers have been kept to a minimum recently allowing us to work on the areas that we know could cause us pain long term if not tackled now.

The ticket guys have been doing a great job, that workstream has been kept well under control allowing those guys to get more exposure on systems they have never worked on which will benefit the department and the business in the long run.

Martyn from Marketing:

Spencer and I have been busily beavering away at new webpages all week. Why? All will soon become clear.

What about the rest of the team? Well, Chris has been working on the newsletter and he’s been getting knee-deep in statistics to find out how our My Referrals programme is working at the moment. Amy’s been knee-deep in statistics of a different sort, with affiliate marketing being her focus.

Phil has been downstairs taking sales calls, hopefully he’s learned some useful stuff that will help us make our sales pages more effective. We’ve also welcomed Sameer this week, he’s our new web analyst, so he’s been getting up to speed with how all our systems work.

Darren from Products:

You wouldn’t think it’s summer by looking at the weather outside! But that’s not stopping Rich from working on new product designs. Luke’s been investigating home move trends and consulting with our retentions team. I’ve been working on National Statistics, hardware forecasting and Marketing KPIs. Maria’s been Chasing BT for numerous confirmations, working with the CSC on a customer issue and much to her delight doing handover work to Ian as she’s going on Holiday! At least someone’s going to get a summer, thanks for rubbing it in Maria…

Matt from QA:

A quiet day in QA today with a couple of people off on holiday. Gary has been on problems along with Rugmini and myself. We’ve had a great week on getting problem fixes rolled live and problems are looking good going into next week. Nige has been busy on his own work but has dipped into problems too. Always grateful for some extra help. Gavin and Babitha have been busy on project testing along with Matt R who’s been working from home today. Bit of a quiet week all in all but with some new projects starting next week things should get a bit more interesting in QA.

Matt from Comms:

Comms has spent most of today (in fact most of this week) preparing for the loss of the almighty Mand, who is starting a 2 month secondment to the BA (business analyst) team as of Monday. As a result we (Mand and I) have spent most of today sorting the handover as I’ll be taking over most of her stuff in the meantime. So you can count me slightly nervous but looking forward to the challenge.

James has been off again following his birthday yesterday so I assume he’s been being hungover and hopefully enjoying himself in spite of that.

Chris and Bob appear to have spent most of the day waiting for the b3ta newsletter. No, wait, Bob’s been doing networks change controls, some peer reviewing (basically making sure that anything posted anywhere is sensible and won’t get us into trouble with any amusing spelling mistakes and such), sending a few emails and also a bit of newsgroup/forum action.

Chris has spent most of the day dealing with the Aladdin trial, and also bobbing about in forums. That may not sound like a lot after everything else but it’s a full time job believe me.

Well I ought to provide a random link seeing as it’s become the order of the day round here, so… here is a fun little game. Enjoy.
