D’oh – must not get too engrossed in work to forget to find an editor for the End of Day so I’m doing it again. Oh well, on with the show.
First up, Ian in the CSC:
1. Speed faults
A very high number of customers reporting speed problems. Most of these are due to the recent press surrounding expected speeds and in many cases are not faults but simply a case of misunderstanding or misinterpretation of what is expected from a line.
2. Provisioning updates
A lot of customers ringing today requesting updates on how their order is progressing. Most of these do not have internet access at home to track their order themselves. Also customers providing us with updates regarding activation of new phone lines.
3. Router setup
Customers calling for help with router setup. There still seems to be a major problem with customers being unaware their broadband username contains a realm. Usually these calls are relatively easy as it is often just a case of correcting this.
4. Username/password confirmations
Customers ringing for usernames and passwords. Most of these have simply forgotten their details because they have not used them for some time, and are trying to setup new equipment or computers.
5. Pre-sales enquiries
Customers ringing up for clarification of terms of our products or for advice on which products would best suit them.
Mand from Comms:
I appear to have been democratically nominated for this EOD (read Chris putting my name on a spreasheet!).
So, good evening and welcome to the Comms EOD.
Bob is still slacking off in the sun somewhere, and Chris is enjoying his ‘Friday’ as he’s taking the rest of the week off.
Matt has been finalising some details for our upcoming LAN party, as well as sorting out some problems and helping out our QA team with testing.
James has been loitering around our forums, and helping out our sales team with any queries they have. He’s also been chasing a couple of particularly niggly problems.
I have been chasing problems, attending lots of meetings (cheers Bob!
) and delivering some training on BT systems to our Business Support team.
Chris has been preparing an email ready to send tomorrow, actioning Network change controls, and prioritising problems. He also said he had been herding goats, although I’m not sure how true that is.
Neil from Networks:
It’s been a busy and productive day for most up here in Networks. My guys, Dan, Aaron, and Kev have had a really good day on the housekeeping side such as working through abuse emails, domain expiries, mail space management etc as we’ve only had a handful of tickets to do which means everything must be working!
Ben has been making me tea all day but to be fair this action has been reciprocated! In between making and drinking tea he’s managed to squeeze in a bit of maintenance on our old Charitydays vISP, and attend to some internal mail and portal issues that have cropped up….
It’s been a mixed bag for Josh who’s taken care of some PCI compliance work but has also been fighting what can only be described as a losing battle with our automated server build processes…. It’s been even worse for poor Carl who’s spent all day pulling his hair out (is that Josh’s hair he’s been pulling?)!
It’s not all bad though! Riz has been working on Security which is always of paramount importance. Denis has been doing some work on our load balancing and VPN related work to improve links between our UK offices and our Offices in South Africa (though I think the best way to improve links would simply be to fly us all down there for a few months when Winter kicks in here!). Rich has been improving documentation and doing cleanup work following the decommissioning of some servers, and Ade has been doing ERX configs. Ian has been working on shareband. Si has been working on Monitoring improvements, problems and consolidation, Russ on SNMP monitoring, and Mike on Monitoring everything else!
Thats about it really
Adios!
Neil
That’s all for now, more tomorrow.
Colin
