End of Day: 12th May

May 12th, 2008 at 18:04 by Tamlyn Rhodes

On this day in 1967, Pink Floyd staged the world’s first ever quadraphonic concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. On this day in 2008, PlusNet employees did the following…

Comms: It’s still gorgeous and warm up here in Sheffield, leading many of us to question the merits of giving our local pub free broadband access providing we can use it for wifi, but aside from that, here’s what we’ve been doing. James: Training and call monitoring in the Sales Team. Meetings, forums and task work. Chris: Answering safe surf queries, task work, problem management, writing a best practice and handling Networks change controls. Mand: Meetings, problem management, home phone process changes, changes to billing systems, issuing profanities in the direction of her laptop. Matt: Handling development change controls, Looking at a LAN party, meetings and sending emails.

Web Team: We’ve been discussing how best to organise the forthcoming customer generated support articles section; how will the search, categories & tags work together? Also been looking at options for the improved My Account interface.

Customer Support Centre: Top 5 issues today:

  1. Router config, users wanting help with router setup or basic network setup.
  2. Faults updates - We have has some calls today by customers calling to update us with changes to their faults or for updates on where the faults are with BT.
  3. Email setup - Customers calling for help with pop3 and IMAP setup. Customer also calling for help with mailbox setup.
  4. Username & Password confirmation. We have had a few calls today by customers who were wanting to confirm the username and password on the account.
  5. Sales - We have has lots of sales calls today for people wanting to join PlusNet from other suppliers.

Marketing: A sunny day in Sheffield and the marketing team have spent the entire day eating Phil’s birthday cake. OK, so not the entire day, we’ve also found time to do some real work. I’ve been reviewing the impact of our recent promotions and our recent press coverage. Nick is still locked away somewhere with his trusty spreadsheets and the rest of the team have been busy hopping around between meetings, and cake.

Networks: Today has been quite a busy one in Networks, I (Matt) have been finishing off some security work, dealing with port requests and helping out with tickets. Neil has also been helping out with tickets, Dunk has been slaving away at problems, Riz has been doing some preparation work for a security related project. Aaron has been holding the fort for parbin support/hostmaster. Russ has been growing his golden locks whilst tracking a DOS attack.

Well, thats it for those guys, here’s a breakdown of the other work thats been going on today: Carl: Brightview Ph2, DDOS, Ellacoya Upgrades, Ellacoya Resilience
Josh: Building out hardware for a desktop java app
Ben: Monitoring
Mike P: Staging improvements
