End of Day: 7th May

May 7th, 2008 at 17:19 by Tamlyn Rhodes

The sunny weather continues in Sheffield. Get those barbecues fired up if you haven’t already and make the best of it while it lasts. Remember last summer? Yeah, neither do I.

CSC: Sheffield has been blessed with another beautiful day, unfortunately we’re all indoors taking calls on these topics:

  1. Router Configurations - Always a popular one considering its not an everyday thing for people to do.
  2. Provide Updates - This seems very popular than normal however nothing different in the queries “When will i be switched on”, “How long does it take” etc.
  3. No/Intermittent Sync - This being the most popular of problems when it comes to problems with the broadband, most often cause it noise on the line or extension cables (not my favorite) causing problems.
  4. E-mail Configurations - Similar to the router setups once setup people don’t tend to reset these up.
  5. Advanced settings - This is a new one, this ranges from those setting up static ip’s, to setting up smtp mail servers really people getting into something a little more challenging.

Comms: Today Matt has been working on a blog about the new Broadband Phone platform along with clearing out some of his task work and personal tickets. Bob has been seen in various forums and has started to lock his laptop when he leaves his desk. Mand provided me with this update, problems, meetings, personal tickets and some ad-hoc task work. I’ve been popping in and out of forums, continuing to learn about the Safe Surf trial and clearing out some tasks. James has turned invisible and hasn’t been seen on the comms desk for weeks.

Marketing: Martyn and Spence have continued onwards and upwards with their web designs for our business pages, whilst Chris has been readying this month’s newsletter. Phil spent more time on recruiting 3 new team members as well as writing a blog post.

Networks: Today has thankfully been a relatively quiet day in Networks. In addition to the normal day-to-day tasks like dealing with customers’ problems, monitoring our myriad of systems and making general improvements, we’ve also been mentoring new team members and passing on our collective knowledge. Other team members have been upgrading our traffic billing and internal storage systems, improving our system monitoring and installing new servers. I suppose “quiet” is relative.

Web Team: Colin’s been upgrading The blog and forum software on the Community Site. James has been working on moderator support for the customer generated support content. Jonny has been preparing for the PlusNetter of the Month meeting tomorrow and restyling the Twitter plugin.
