The start of the week, well my start of week anyway after having just had a long weekend. Why after having a holiday do you always feel like you need another? Another of life’s little conundrums I reckon. Good job I’m going up north this coming weekend for a break.
Anyway, enough of me for now, let’s see what’s been happening on this miserable looking Wednesday around the business starting first with Kev in the CSC:
A good day today. Some staff off for faults training which is great. A BT system was down which meant we could not check BT orders whilst on the phone.
On to the top 5 for today.
Over next to Jimbo to enlighten us with the Comms happenings:
It’s been a pretty quiet day in Comms today, with Mand and Matt off, so there’s only been myself, Chris and Bob in.
I’ve been mainly focusing on our forums for both PlusNet and Madasafish customers, as well as looking into the content of an email we’re hoping to send soon.
Bob’s been working in Networks all day, looking mainly into some issues that have arisen as part of the recent Manage My Mail improvements. He’s also been handling some change controls.
Chris managed to replace Mand for the great AM coffee run this morning (Thanks Chris!) and he’s also been dealing with Development change controls and going to a few meetings. He’s been seen poking around in our forums too.
On a side note, I’ll be playing for South Yorkshire Vs. North Yorkshire in the 8 ball pool variety, so if there’s anyone in Barnsley that wants to cheer us on, we’ll be at the “Miscues” venue from about 11am on Sunday.
In true John Virgo stylee, pot as many balls as you can James. Next on the list is Geoff representing Networks:
Today has been a day to carry out essential work. Platform monitoring has been worked on, so that when we do have to react, rather than be proactive, there should be less unexpected items. Also some internal documentation and site audit information has been reviewed and updated.
Our new Ellacoya database is progressing. The new cluster is going through testing nicely, while daily maintenance of the current platform has been performed with several additions made to the systems for known services.
The new backup system is continuing to be worked on, specifically making sure that the network supports backup and restore between the sites.
Finally, work progresses to move all our services to new load balancers. This is essential work to improve the service so that new features can be handled in the future.
And lastly for today Martyn’s got the Marketing End of Day:
I’ve been brainstorming ideas for some My Referrals ‘eCards’. We already have banner ads and pre-written emails that you can send out to help promote PlusNet, and the eCards will give you another option. Chris has been working on the cancellation survey and also nipped out to the newsagents to pick up the Sheffield Star, because they’ve devoted the centrefold to us today with four separate stories about PlusNet. Spencer has been being creative, looking at colour combinations and the like.
Nick and Phil have been out of the office at a management meeting so that’s all from us today.
And that’s all folks, I’ve got some more usage analysis to do this evening before heading off home. Catch you all next time…
Well, I've not been called Jimbo for about 8 years.
Here at Plusnet we're always trying to use clever open source things to make our lives easier. Sometimes we write our own and make other people's lives easier too!
