End of Day: 31st March

March 31st, 2008 at 18:12 by Tamlyn Rhodes

As usual, I completely forgot about the clocks going forward yesterday but since all my clocks (i.e. phone, iPod, PC & TV) update to British Summer Time automatically it didn’t matter and I didn’t miss the start of the pub quiz! I wonder how long it will be until phones can update your timezone when you step off the airplane.

Mark from Networks: We’ve been busy making improvements to the manage my mail system and reviewing our storage devices. We’ve also been looking at TLS for email, as well as the usual operational tasks such as monitoring of our systems and actioning tickets.

Robert from Development: Today is very exiting day. First of all, I love BST. Today is the first day for the last few months when I will leave the office and it won’t be dark outside. I’m so happy as there is some time after work for cycling or walking and the weather only encourages you to go outdoors. In Development we nearly finished a few major things. First of all, we have reached a magic number of 95% of all BrightView customers migrated onto our platform. It is a huge success and we are nearly there to complete it, great job to all involved. The Remote Development Team got the last pieces of the code for Meeting Manager from QBurst (our offshore company). The code has already been reviewed and Ben finished merging the code onto our source code management system and Catherine has started testing new functionality. Finally, there is good news for the developers working on the second phase of the BrightView project. After a few weeks of development they have reached Integration phase meaning a lot of work for our QA team :) Great job to all of you.

Martyn from Marketing: Today I’ve been looking at statistics. We made some changes to the website last week and I needed to find out if they’d been successful, so I’ve been doing a bit of web analytics and crunching numbers for much of the day. Chris has been ordering some GAME vouchers as part of our Broadband Your Way Pro promotion, as well as preparing for some upcoming PR activity. Spencer has been co-ordinating some web page changes and getting ready for a meeting in London tomorrow.

Colin from Web Team: Jonny’s been getting his hands dirty with implementing a different footer on the Community Site containing more useful links and information while Dan has been continuing with Manage My Mail development. James has been fixing the final issues with the Flickr Plugin and has been working on the Twitter plugin. I’ve been working with our colleagues in Networks on getting a software update applied to some servers and turning my hand to some coding to help out my colleagues on the project team while they’ve been beavering away on their updates… Tam’s been fixing avatar problems and has been investigating our Framework code to add jQuery hooks for making use of it’s features.

They do! Or at least, they do where the network supports it. Every time I've been to the US the phone has detected the new timezone on registration with the network.

That may not be timezone support though - that might just be the fact that the phone adjusts its clock to the network clock, à la a British phone moving between GMT/BST correctly.
