End of Day: 26th March

March 26th, 2008 at 18:24 by Kelly Dorset

After the rather poor turnout yesterday on the EOD front, today has gone a little…. well.. obfuscated?

Continue reading to work out what I’m going on about. You might have to do a little bit homework to work out what’s going on here.

First up, we have a very special guest from QA

Woah. Ok. Kevin from the CSC next

A mixed and interesting day for the first early shift for Team A.

  1. Faults – Intermittent connections usually causing a slower speed.
  2. Domain Enquiries – Domain issues. Mostly email and renewal related.
  3. Router set-up – People needing help with configuring their routers. We’ve had a surge of people calling about the new dlink routers we are supplying
  4. Fault Updates – Calls for information on the progress of their fault.
  5. Email set-up – Setting up email clients and also enquiries related to spam.

Not wanting to be upstaged by QA, Comms Chris confuses things further

Chris from Marketing providing something entirely more understandable!

The day started brightly in marketing as PlusNet got a front page mention on The Daily Telegraph. We spent the rest of the day working on some upcoming print ads and handling a wide variety of press room and marketing enquiries. I also have it on good authority that Phil attacked Darren from the products team with a glasses case. We’ll be off to the pub shortly to watch Mr Beckham et al against Les Bleues.

Next up, Denis decides to display his inner ubergeek on the behalf of the Networks Team.

Phil’s community site debut with the Development EOD

Its been relatively subdued in the development department this week as people get back to work after the long weekend.

Brightview seems to occupying most developers’ time – since I started I’ve heard that name a lot, and its usually mentioned in a kind of weary ‘will it never end’ sort of way. I was going to make a pun about looking on the bright side of life but that would be lame… The commitment to finishing the project is undiminished though and there have been a lot of late nights and hard work recently.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has helped be during my first couple of weeks – I’ve bothered a lot of busy people with my questions but have never felt as though I’m putting them out, testament to the culture here at PlusNet.

Last up is James from Web Dev

Right this is it, don’t get scared now. (er.. ok? Ed.)

Wojtek has been immersing himself once again in templates, he’s going home now to get cleaned up before another session tomorrow.

Nick and Mark have been working on various email templates, support sections, and problems.

Sam has been looking at print stylesheets.

I’ve been working on bringing plusnettv to the masses, and I’ve had my Flickr app open source release snipered and shot down post code review. Which means I will to fix the identified issues before it can head out the door into the wider world.

Kelly, Pete, and Jonny haven’t all been out together for lunch today, but they have all been working on moving Brightview forward. Oh and Kelly bought some CD’s.

Until the next time…..

James.

Well, that was interesting. I expect you all to be scuttling off to find online converters for some of those posts. Or the really clever ones decoding in their heads. Bunch of show offs! (mind you, they don’t be doing the PGP decryption in their heads… now that is something I’d like to see…)

Signing off, Kelly.

Kelly

Binary, Hex and an encrypted PGP message which we have neither the public nor private key for- impressed yet Kelly?

QA-

"I've been thoroughly testing the platform

Gary's been writing test plans

Gavin's been looking into email/spam

Nigel's been delving into database checks

Matt 1's been doing upgrades

Matt 2's been doing SMS

Phil's been helping out from the CSC"

Comms-

"When asked what people had been doing today Bob replied with an answer that I couldn't publish to a wider audience. After some prompting he did manage to tell me what he'd been doing though. Here goes:-
Bob:- Network change controls, Postini related threads, internal comms and investigating a domain issue on MAAF.
Matt:- Forums, problems, personal tickets, meeting about high usage customers and retentions.
James:- Sales team, forums.
Mand:- Lots of meetings, updating internal documentation, problems.
Me:- Problems, forums, network tasks and CSC support."

Kelly

PJ: You mean you haven't tried to guess the secret for it yet? Shame.

Hmmm.. do you guys speak in code too? An interesting EOD I must say!

Kelly

It's been known! :)

I'm disappointed no one has guessed the key for the networks EOD. It wasn't very hard!
