Hi Shaun

We used to use the MU version of Wordpress, but we found it wasn't being updated as much when new versions of Wordpress came out. This was where most of the original integration came in to it, and it was just as difficult.

I have to say that Wordpress 2.5 does make it somewhat better with regards to integration, as I've been able to do it quite quickly with very few changes.

Thanks,
Colin

One of the problems with using Smarty is that the code must declare in advance which variables will be used in a template. WordPress makes use of lazy loading by using method calls to only generate the required data when (and if) it is used. This allows for a freer style of template writing. There have been a couple of attempts to implement lazy loading in Smarty but I remember looking at them with a view to porting my open source gallery program, singapore, to use Smarty and none of them were quite right. That was a couple of years ago though and things may have progressed.
