Another week, another set of challenges. For the Web Development team, after a blur of activity last week in getting our new Community design live, we’re now ironing out the creases.
The new style met with approval from most, with some preferring the old design. The new design is designed to be flexible and future development of the Community site will benefit because of it. What do you think of the new skin?
We’ve seen a very sunny Sheffield today; in fact it’s been lovely up here all weekend. It’s all very Spring-like.. I hope the weather’s as nice where you are. I think it’s put everyone in a good mood, well almost everyone..
Here’s Bob with the latest from the wonderful world of Comms: Right, well it looks like Chris has actually succeeded in convincing me to pen the Comms EOD for today. Not sure quite how he managed it, especially given the lack of hot beverages that have landed on my desk today!
As for the last time I wrote the Comms EOD, it was only about 6 weeks ago. Reading that reminds me too - I still haven’t exacted my revenge! (we were wondering Bob - Ed).
Anyways, on to the fruits of today’s labour… It’s been a pretty steady day to be honest so here’s hoping the rest of the week continues in the same vein!
Mand’s been looking after problem management and keeping tabs on development Change Controls. She’s also been clearing out some of the personal tickets she has ownership of.
As well as publishing a blog on our new and improved Speedtester, Chris has been attending to a few single user problems and lending a helping hand across the forums.
James has been upstairs again today tackling account management, problems and a touch of order placing; that’s when he’s not been in the forums keeping an ever watchful eye on things.
As for me, I’ve been sat in the lofty heights of Networks today, overseeing network change controls, popping in and out of Usenet and the forums and continuing to work on some documentation.
Emma, tell us, what’s been happening in the CSC today? Welcome to Team B’s top 5 for this chilly day (you can tell they were on the early shift can’t you, it brightened up lovely - Ed). Starting off very quiet it soon started to heat up not long after 8am. Thankfully we all got hot breakfasts today which helped!
Here we go with the Top 5 issues of the day:
Darren in Product, tell us about your product stuff: It’s been a nice Monday for a change; I’ve been working on resolving a few hardware issues (sorting out some orders you mean? - Ed) and preparing for Shaun’s forthcoming departure (he’s leaving us for pastures new shortly - sniff). Rich has been busy working on the VoIP platform and working on some documentation. Shaun’s been in a very cheery mood today (maybe because he only has a few days left of horrible car journeys); he’s been working on analysis and handover documentation. Dave’s been hard at work on what is set to be another terrific blog post and Ian has been working on e-mail content.
Let’s finish today off with a quick Product fact!! Did you know that if you burnt all the data our customers have downloaded since April 1st 2007 onto DVDs and laid them side by side they’d stretch from Sheffield to Elstree studios (going by roads rather than as the crow flies) and if you add in uploads as well you’d get to Gatwick! Now that’s a lot of DVDs.
(Funnily enough I never knew that - Ed)
Chris in Marketing, what’re the scores on the doors? I’ve spent the day catching up with emails and PR enquiries following my few days off last week. I’ve also been making sure that we send out the right games to our new customers who signed up for Pro during the offer.
The rest of the team have ensured that our new testimonials page rolled out today. Between us we’ve had plenty of internal meetings and presentations to attend.
Introducing herself today: ‘Hello everybody, this is Emily from Dev’: We had a very busy day today, as usually, that’s why I have almost forgotten to post my end of day and that’s why it will be maybe a bit shorter than usual.
Today I have finished a tool which will allow Madasafish customers to request a house move. I have started to work for PlusNet 6 months ago but I still feel like a new starter so to me it is always a big and exciting thing to roll something live and this wasn’t a usual rollout. I have learned something new today: how to roll to our servers manually instead of using the fantastic rollout script what we have. Thanks Ben for your help!
I also got the chance today to look at how we display and store the broadband usage our customers are using. Thank you Andy, you were a great help today (as always) on this.
Friday we had a night out with our visitors from India so we had a small chat about it, everybody had a wonderful night.
Rick and Ben are doing some improvements to our signup process so they have been very busy today.
Finally, there’s no update from QA today. Catherine says “I started writing it but I’ve just been too busy to finish it. I was just going to moan about someone stealing my chair anyway.”
So, there we have it. Another busy week underway.
PJ
I still haven't got my chair back. Shocking, I call it.
