End of Day: 6th February

February 6th, 2008 at 18:06 by Colin Ogilvie

Wooohooo. It’s alive! The new Community Site skin has now made it on to the live servers… and there’s at least 4 of us in here who are delighted at this. We hope you are too… but if you find any issues, there’s a forum thread to report this issues. While we’ve been doing this, other departments have bene busy as well.

Martyn from Marketing provides us with this update:

With 2 team members on holiday, the Marketing department is a bit thin on the ground today, but the rest of us are hard at work as ever. With it being a Wednesday, we’ve been looking at graphs again in our weekly targets review.

We’ve also been working on promotional emails, PR, broadband sales journey changes and an advert for the Sheffield Wednesday programme. I’ve also been reviewing documentation for some new internal tools that should help us be even more productive.

Adey from Networks:

Apart from the regular work routine of fixing individually raised customer problems, monitoring the services across the platform and the daily operational tasks, we have had some eventful pieces of work. Mark and Duncan worked improving the IP network structure of our webmail platform. Russ has meticulously been testing Resiliency/failover of our monitoring platform.
Simon, Mike and Richard has been away to our London Datacenter where they performed a fantastic software upgrade of Storage boxes also resolving miscellaneous tasks while out there. Denis has been setting up and testing new VPNs to London datacenters. Enjoy the rest of the day..

Catherine from QA updates us with:

Last night the full and awesome power of the EOD was brought home to me. The immense earliness of Easter this year meant that Pancake Day had snuck up on me all unawares, and I would have gone without any tasty fried goodness if I hadn’t read Cameron’s post yesterday which mentioned it! A year without pancakes doesn’t bear thinking about, so my greedy stomach says thanks to Cameron and thanks to the EOD :-D
In work news, it’s been another hectic day in QA trying to squash our problem queue. Everyone’s too busy to tell me what they’ve been doing, but I can tell you that being the Gatekeeper is hard work. Mind you, I had a mid morning break to do some work on a test plan, which was a nice change – and Rys bought me a chocolate bar, so it’s not all bad.

Matt from Comms:

Short and sweet today. Like, oh, I don’t know… Kylie Minogue. Yeah. That’ll do.

Well I have been training staff on a few interesting new things that will be revealed in time, along with general CSC enquiries and some problems too.

Chris has been on the networks floor, in the forums and dealing with Networks change controls.

Mand has been dealing with the majority of problems and the development change controls, along with project updates and a number of workshops.

James is continuing his sojourn with the products team, as I’m not sure what specifically he’s doing there (apart from seeing his posts in forums) I’ll state that today he was having heavy fruit dropped onto his stomach and boards broken over his back. It’s tough work, but somebody’s got to do it.

In contrast, Bob has been working from home on Voip and Postini related things, but did assure us that he was enjoying his morning tea from Carol’s very special Michael Buble mug. Selfishly though he neglected to include any photographic evidence.

It’s not that I don’t believe him you understand, but any photo of Bob with Buble involved is one I’d like to see for comedy purposes, and the more people I get to share it with the better.

Oh well.

Unfortunately, there’s no update from the CSC again, which is partly my fault for forgetting about the EOD until a bit later on in the day.

Right, I’m off to avoid a certain football match this evening and to potentially catch up on some code reviews.

Great job guys - love the new look.

Cheers Neil!

Would it be possible please to change the colour of the skin? I know that you can't please everyone, but for me the rather dark colur is rather morbid. Could we have something a bit more cheerful?

Moggy

I like it!

Bob, I said vivid lime green but they wouldn't listen to me! ;) One of the many great things that this new design offers us is that it is much easier to develop for and modify. I'm sure you'll see some fresh new colours in the future.

I'd just like to say another big well done to the team (and especially to Colin) for the push in getting this out there.

Be3G

I like how the Comms update, supposedly 'short and sweet', is 50% longer than the next-longest update. :P

Kelly

Yeah, huge well done to Colin as we really put him under a lot of pressure to get this done this week and has moved heaven and earth to get it in done.

James

Yeah, loving his typo in the first para too :P

petejackson

Don't be horrid James. Anyway, which one do you mean? I count three. ;)

Be3G

I count five, if you want to include all mistakes in the first paragraph. :P

LiamM

2 - 1, 2 - 1 :-)

Teehee... That one is for Colin :-)

James

It was late!

Colin

I spot two of them just now... this instead of the, bene instead of been. There might also be a grammar error too.

I blame Kelly for stressing me out :-p

Roo

The use of issues twice in one sentence isn't very good either ;)

Don't like this new skin at all. The purple and white was much cleaner and looked fresh. This one just looks drab. I agree with the guy who asked for the skins to be customisable. Let us choose the nice skin, please! :o )

James

Okay, someone appears to be randomly using my name in vain.

Colin?
