Ransomware on the rise

January 3rd, 2008 at 14:34 by Dan Kirkland

PC World reports that Ransomware is on the rise. I’m not sure that this will become all that widespread but the concept really bothers me.

Basically, these types of Trojan Horse will lock your computer and will only unlock itself once you have paid money into an account. I guess in some ways you have to admire the ingenuity and plain audacity, but how wrong can you be? The new “Pay-a-virus-or-else” (or pavoe) service comes courtesy of a company registered in the Republic of Seychelles. Read here for more info.

So, be careful, your next untrusted download could be a costly mistake!

Don't they have laws in the Seychelles? Whatever happened to international law agencies co-operating? Follow the money, catch the culprits, lock them up, and throw away the keys!
