End of Day: 18th December

December 18th, 2007 at 18:19 by Peter Jackson

Spam is a pain, I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that. Bob Pullen has been busy today moving the Postini trial on to the next stage. You can read his announcement here if you’d like to learn more and see how you can volunteer to take part.

We didn’t have an update from the CSC yesterday.. but here with today’s news is Brad. Brad tidings if you will. Ho ho.

It’s the Top 5 from the CSC, don’t worry we are still here!

  1. Router Setup - Looks like customers are still needing help setting up hardware. If there is anything we can do to make it easier for you guys please let us know :-)
  2. Sales - We are getting loads of calls from potential customers who are interested in our products to bring them Christmas cheer!
  3. Fault Updates - Customers wishing to find out where their fault is at the moment and understandably, when they’re likely to be fixed.
  4. Email Setup - Some customers needing help setting up email software. Again any information that you can give in order to make it a better experience for you would be gratefully received.
  5. New Faults - Due to Christmas time (weather, lights etc) there are more faults raised than normal.

Here’s Chris with the usual understated update from Comms:

Well here is today’s EOD for the fantastically magnificent Comms team. ;)

James has continued sitting away from the Comms desk, we don’t miss him as he never made tea anyway (that’s entirely my fault.. I made the mistake of mentioning tea earlier. I should’ve known better - Ed). He’s carried on helping out the BOT and CS teams whilst keeping active in the forums. He’s answered a few tickets too, all this and he’s writing quite possibly the biggest blog I’ve ever seen. Keep an eye out for that one!

Mand has continued working through the problem process and has been inundated with PMs from various forums. She’s also been doing some tickets and ensuring the change controls for Development are actioned in a good time.

I’ve kept myself busy today by poking around the forums, doing a few tickets and also answering what seems like numerous questions from various members of the CSC. I’ve also posted the customer satisfaction blog for December (November’s results).

Bob has been upstairs with the networks team, protecting the platform from the oncoming hordes of evil aliens. When he’s had chance he’s been in the forums and also handling the networks change controls. You’ve probably seen a couple of service status posts he’s written too.

Matt hasn’t been here today, he’s very, very lucky his desk didn’t get wrapped up in Christmas decorations similar to Bob’s on Monday.

Darren in Products, he says:

Today everyone (but me) has been extremely busy in an all-day meeting regarding our future product roadmap. Ian was in this meeting but also managed to meet two possible future suppliers. Shaun has had a very mellifluous (you swallowed a thesaurus or something? - Ed) day working from home, he’s been working on the company dashboard, processing ad-hoc requests and investigating anomalies (you have haven’t you?) with MAAF signups both reporting and journey. I have been investigating a hardware reporting issue, Affiliate reporting and collating forecast data for Homephone.

Marketing, and Martyn has this to relate:

It’s been email-tastic in Marketing today, as we’ve been putting the finishing touches to the Broadband Your Way Pro and My Referrals emails mentioned yesterday. We’ve also been preparing to send them, meaning we’ve been importing datasets to our email software and testing in a million and one different email clients.

Away from emails we’ve picked up our Broadband Your Way journey work after a couple of days off. The highlight of the day has undoubtedly been the first entry in the Christmas Photo Competition. If you think you can beat that then get your camera out and let us see the results!

Mark in Finance, he can’t half count things:

Well today, like every other day, has been busy. I’ve been helping to sort out direct debits and helping Alex (who is settling in very nicely) with tickets. Kate has been finishing off payroll and Mark B has been signing it off. James has been working on credit card reconciliation. Fiona has been looking after the Failed Billing team.

I particularly like the brevity of today’s update from Simon in Networks:

Duncan - Staging upgrades plan
Simon - Mail housekeeping/automation
Josh - backups
Ade - problems and cbc archiving
Michael - Monitoring/housekeeping
Ian - coredb site failover testing
Dan - tickets
Matt - tickets
Richard - tickets/data suite improvements
Carl - madasafish

Thank ye one and all. Not long left now is it? I hear tell Mother Xmas is spreading good cheer amongst the support team. And watch out for Father Xmas who’s been known to work in the CSC on the run-up to the big day.

Take care,

P-j
