End of Day: 13th December

December 13th, 2007 at 18:27 by Tamlyn Rhodes

Spirits were high today after the end of year Company Rally this afternoon. It consisted of three Pecha Kucha presentations on what we have achieved and where we are headed next. The 20 second time limit on each slide made for some amusing presentations!

Cathrine from QA: Gary has developed more grey hairs today because he’s spent the day working with NetOps to fix our many staging issues. Kelly has been sitting with us for some of the day and spent some of the day in Leeds discussing a PHP graduate programme with Leeds NTI. Paul has taken a break from the the sea of problems today to print out his favourite LOLcat and tell us about it :-) Gavin, Nigel, Matt B and Matt R are all off today for various reasons, so perhaps they’re secretly planning a bank heist? I’ve been helping Gary with some staging issues, doing some testing on Madasafish, picking up some ad-hoc content tasks and helping Adam from the CSC who came to give us a hand earlier. Matt T has been with us again hammering the bug tests and making us laugh. And finally, Boss Man Stephen had his mammoth levels of work over the last few months recognised by being awarded the PlusNetter of the Month. Well done Stephen, you deserve it!

Martyn from Marketing: I’m back today after a few days off – I could definitely get used to 2 day weeks! I’ve been straight back into the thick of things, working on some concepts for a minisite that we’ll be launching in the new year and also looking at re-wording the text on the My Broadband Speed site. The whole team attended the monthly rally and Chris has been in touch with the lucky winner of our My Referrals New York promotion. We’ve also continued to work on the Broadband Your Way journey improvements and issued a press release about the effect of Christmas lights on broadband.

Mike from CSC top 5 issues:

  1. Router config – Customers having issues following instructions provided or require assistance with setting up routers.
  2. Fault update – Customers calling / returning calls for updates on faults / logged faults.
  3. Provisioning update – Some delayed and general order queries.
  4. Email client config – Some generic mail client issues and new mailbox set up queries.
  5. Hardware chase ups – Some customers still querying hardware deliveries.

Darren from Products:

Today seems to have gone very quickly. I’ve spent most of the day working on the Usage ticket pool in Dave’s absence and chasing up problems related to it. As its Thursday I’ve also been working on upgrading customers to the wonders of up to 8mb speeds. Maria has been working on the monthly Rally – supporting colleagues with presentation material etc. She’s also been offsite with the very busy Marketing Director on catch up and have been looking at more radical ways to develop the products. Ian seems to have been in meetings all day spec’ing a new tool to help build new products for the future; this is something we’re really excited about. Shaun has been working on MAAF reporting, dashboard amendments, monthly rally, usage analysis, churn analysis, referrals requests and ad-hoc data requests.

Chris from Comms:

Well we’ve been a bit sparse again today, with only myself and Mand populating the comms desk. James has been across the floor with the CS team again, while Matt has been helping out QA. Bob has been skiving, or as he describes it, Christmas shopping. I’ve been insanely busy today, a number of problems, change controls and service status posts have kept me entertained. I’ve also tried to keep an eye in the forums for any issues. James has continued helping the CS team, ensuring they know what to do and how to do it. He’s also been very active in the forums today and picking up a few problems along the way. Mand has mainly been dealing with problems, as always she has chased them and tried to get timely updates for our customers. Thanks for reading and I’m so glad it’s Friday tomorrow!

Colin from the Web Team:

The Web Team have today been looking at making the lives of our DBA (Database Administrator) slightly easier, working on the Pay As You Host platform, bug fixing, reviewing code and testing changes to My Broadband Speed and the Community Site. The content team have been fixing issues on the Madasafish site, and the designers have been desiging – I’m reliably informed that they’ve been working on stuff for the Careers Site and My Broadband Speed.
