End of Day: 7th December

December 7th, 2007 at 23:32 by Colin Ogilvie

It’s been a long and busy week at PlusNet this week.

There’s been a flurry of activity throughout the business today.

Emma from the CSC brings us this update for today:

“Welcome to another installment of top 5 from Team B. Its a very exciting day with lots of decorations going up so we’re getting in the spirit now!

1. Email configuration – this includes username and password, the format of the address and webmail, getting questions on postini as well.

2. Fault chases – customers checking up on faults raised, the outcome of engineers appointments and the eta of hearing back from wholesale suppliers.

3. router setup – we get a fair amount of these every day, mainly the equipment we send out however some customers do have difficulties with shop bought routers.

4. Provisioning – customers checking on order progress including migrations, new orders and house moves.

and finally: Sales calls – lots of new potential customers calling asking for clarification of our packages and many are surprised at how much we can save them.

many thanks for reading!”

Martyn from Marketing brings us this update:

“The marketing department has been decorated in shiny silver Christmas decorations today (Ed: Picture taken in a hurry), so we’re all feeling very festive. Chris has been feeling festive all week though, as you can tell by looking at his latest Christmas blog Link

We’ve also been preparing for the end of the New York referrals offer next week, so if you want to enter you’d better move fast and spread the word about PlusNet. Our Broadband Your Way journey work has also continued and we had our weekly KPIs and targets review with the regular dose of multi-coloured graphs.”

Comms comes from Mand today:

“It’s been a busy Friday here in the land of Comms. The CSC is looking brighter though as we’ve put our Christmas trimmings up today.

We’re still a little bit all over the CSC at the moment helping out on the busiest workflows, which is wreaking havoc when it’s time for a tea run!

James has been handling the majority of your forum queries today, along with dealing with the high usage Broadband Plus customers, and fielding questions from our new starters.

Bob is poorly today, bless him, so has mostly been complaining how ill he is with the dreaded man flu. Other than that he’s been monitoring the two trials we’re running on our email and VoIP platforms. He’s also been handling personal tickets and some queries in our newsgroups.

Matt has been mostly helping out our faults team today as they’re a bit stretched. In between this he’s been looking after networks change controls and dipping in and out of the forums.

I’ve been helping our provisioning team with Home Phone issues, monitoring internally raised problems and dealing with some rather lengthy single user issues. I’ve also made tea, twice. :)

Well that’s it from me, have a good weekend everyone.

Mand”

Lee brings us the Networks update:

“Lee from Networks here again. (John P always seems to dodge doing these..!)

This week has been wall to wall Madasafish generally. Started the week with the rollout to live in preparation (my 5.20am start on Sunday springs to mind) which has been followed by lots of tasks to gear up for the big switch on. In addition, supporting our colleagues in the software dev dept has also kept us busy. My personal thanks to everyone who has been going well beyond the call of duty to make sure that this is a success.

As part of MAAF we’ve also been migrating some of their internet traffic through our platforms which has gone extremely well. Thanks especially to Josh for physically being stuck down in London this week plugging fibres around, and Carl for his diligent work with the design and config piece.

Mail has also been a hot topic this week with the Postini anti-spam platform going from our internal mail through real staff broadband accounts and onto our trialists and beyond. Excellent results so far!

With all that going on, you’d think nothing else would have happened…. But we’ve also carried on with at least 3 other projects and maintained smooth operations throughout!

Have a chilled weekend all. “

QAs update is from Catherine who told me:

“We have tested lots of bugs, and even got everyone else in the department to share the QA love. We also managed to eat lots of biscuits and cakes and sweets”

The Web Team have also been testing lots of bugs, and even fixing the odd one here and there. We’ve also been working on updating a script to try and make QAs life easier (who’d have thought learning a new thing in an afternoon would be so difficult, Kelly ;) ).

Right, this really DOES feel like an ‘End of Day’ today… sorry for the delay folks!

Didn't mean to imply I had.... in fact, I still haven't. Went with perl instead.
