End of Day: 5th of December

December 5th, 2007 at 18:08 by Kelly Dorset

Another short, but exciting one today. Everyone is really busy!

Catherine from QA

Phew! It’s all go go go here today, as hectic as I’ve ever seen it here. There’s a real buzz as developers, BA and QA alike are all either engaged in serious bug fixing conversations or buried in the music that helps them concentrate. Time is rushing past and problems are being fixed as quickly as everyone can, with a break every now and then for some light relief (cf. the recent outbreak of sheep puns in QA. I’d be pulling the wool over your eyes if I didn’t admit to that….)

It’s been pretty much business as usual as regards tasks today. Gary’s on gamma tests and random platform fixes as necessary, Nigel and Stephen on WLR, Matt B and Paul on their usual bug stamping fine form and me on gamma tests, live tests and liaising with our Madasafish colleagues. And it’s still only Wednesday! Roll on Friday….

Martyn in Marketing

Today we’ve learned about Kaboodle, so I’ve been starting to think what I might like for Christmas (it’s a bit late I know). If you don’t know what Kaboodle is, check out the latest of Chris’s festive blogs.

It’s not all festive fun and merriment in marketing though. We’ve worked on a few Madasafish items today (all the departments are at it and we didn’t want to feel left out!) and also preparing for some forthcoming competitions – so keep your eyes on the Community Site for more details on these. Our work on the Broadband Your Way journey improvements also continues – you’d better get used to this one cropping up because we’ve still got quite a lot to do! See you tomorrow…

James from Comms

It’s been really quiet in Comms from a personnel front. Chris is on holiday, Matt on his two days off and Mand has been working from home.

I’ve been spending most of my day doing some Provisioning training with a couple of our new starters. Other than this, I’ve been looking into a few problems, various meetings and doing my usual role in the forums. I’ve also been doing some referral sign ups and continued to hide from the webcams.

Mand, as mentioned, has been working from home, mainly looking into problems and handling change controls from a development perspective as well as dipping into our forums.

Bob’s been doing his normal role of Service Status postings and network change controls. He’s also been looking into our recent trials with Gradwell and Postini.

Ben from Development

It’s crunch time here in Development. We’re all working on those final touches on our latest development project (working with our Madasafish colleagues) and it’s pretty much taken over the whole of development. The Quality Assurance department have been keeping our development butt’s in line and making sure that when we finally let all this code out into the world, we’re releasing something that we’re all proud to call part of the PlusNet partnership.

But it’s not the only development we’ve been working on down here today. The Live Code Support team have been taking care of all those issues, questions and problems that come in during the day, they do an amazing job so I’d just like to thank these guys for keeping some of the really bad jobs away from the rest of the us. We have also been working on a new internal Meeting Manager tool – that will allow a much greater level of control in how we organise and manage our meetings. This is being released to a select few in the business tomorrow for some wider user testing, we all can’t wait for that one. We’re also working on an SMS tool, that will allow all you customers out there to update us if you have a fault on your line, which I think sounds fantastic.

As for myself, I’ve been documenting some of the latest parts of our code, keeping an eye on the current Madasafish development – by performing some code review (excellent code everyone BTW) and my monthly catchup with my colleagues in the world of PlusNet.

Right, that is your lot. I now need to go climbing! Have a nice night.
