Sometimes the days go by so fast I get a bit confused. Is it Tuesday today or isn’t it? Fortunately this website has all the answers
Catherine from Quality Assurance:
It seems I’ve been nominated the QA EOD bod now, so you’re stuck with me, at least for the time being. So….we all partied till we dropped on Friday night in the swanky and delightful settings of Cutlers Hall. And a marvelous time was had by all, with some fine fancy dress costumes and fortunes (in toy money, thankfully!) won and lost in the casino.
Back to work today, and Paul, as ever, has been spared the madness for his own personal King Canute act – the problems and hassles of the daily running of an ISP. Duffy from the content team has decided on a change of career and has even tried his hand at a few gamma tests. Will it last? Gary has been zooming around looking at everything and rejoicing in the presence of…you guessed it… Rib n Saucy Nik Naks! Yay! Matts R and B and Nigel have both been working hard on bug squashing as usual, although today has also been a day for random problems to be fixed. Still, it keeps things interesting. Gavin has very sneakily booked himself two weeks holiday over this whole period, but don’t worry, he can clear out the problem pool when he gets back! I’ve been working on some non Madasafish project work (is there such a thing?) but of course still keeping my hand in with a few gamma tests.
And now: a clarification. I mentioned the rare treat of baked beans the other day. I feel I should point out that Chef Paul does us very nicely with pies, roasts and all sorts of tasty food, but baked beans do seem to make QA especially very happy

Here are the top 5 issues in the CSC today:
Chris from Marketing:
It’s been unusually quiet on the marketing desk today as Phil, Neil and Nick are all out of the office. We’ve still be busy though! Martyn is sending an email to remind people that our New York referrals offer ends on the 11th of December, so hurry up everyone and get recommending. Like everyone across the business we’ve been doing some MAAF work and I’ve published the first of our Festive blog posts. Keep reading every day in December for more Christmas tips and information.
I’ve updated the polls too – just to see if anyone else is a slack as me when it comes to Christmas shopping!
Patryk from Networks:
Our main focus today was:
Matt from Comms:
Every letter I type here hurts because of the sheer rawness of my fingers: today has been fantastic, in a keeping-me-interested-and-busy-and-learning-new-things kind of way, but it has involved a lot of typing. Today I have been learning about what Bob actually does when he’s ‘relay policing’.
Annoyingly I wasn’t given control of any gravity guns, or issued with a suit of any colour, let alone black. Nonetheless I have found out what this actually entails. Trust me when I say that botnets can seriously screw your usage and hog all of your upload bandwidth… the worst offender has sent no less than 83,757 emails in the past 24 hours.
I’ve also been helping with a number of high usage customers on the legacy broadband plus product, and giving Mand a hand with a fair few change controls that have needed to be passed through. Mand herself has been up to the eyebrows in the MAAF rollout which has kept her busy all day, when she hasn’t been training.
James has been looking after the forums, which has been quite a job given mine and Mand’s busyness and Chris and Bob’s absence. Even more to his credit he’s looking after the Customer Services team and training a number of new starters at the same time.
Yet more proof (as if it were needed) that Comms is indeed PlusNet’s best and sexiest team. Let the banner of BOLOR and Tea be lifted to the heavens! (Sorry, been reading a lot of Raymond E. Feist. Love that fantasy stuff.)
Tamlyn from Web Team:
Today’s been pretty frantic. Lots and lots of bug fixing and bug finding. Not helped by the air conditioning unit above my head that seems to toggle between ‘tropical’ and ‘arctic’ settings every 15 minutes. I suppose it’s probably good for my immune system.
The air conditioning system is possessed. Honestly. I saw an occult rite being performed out the back of the canteen by sinister people in black cloaks just before we moved into this building.
Here at Plusnet we're always trying to use clever open source things to make our lives easier. Sometimes we write our own and make other people's lives easier too!
