It’s Thursday the 29th of November. The time is 6PM. It’s over to our correspondents for today’s End of Day.
The Web Team have been mostly working on bug fixes for the Madasafish project and on general website updates. We’ve also been given our Free Drinks vouchers for tomorrow’s Christmas Party.
Richard from the CSC brings us today’s update:
“1. Email authentication issues, caused by the problem with outgoing authentication of which we were aware.
2. Not too many new faults, but updates on existing fault reports.
3. Sales enquiries
4. Hardware configuration, both for new customers setting up for the first time, and for existing customers with new routers etc.”
Chris from Comms brings us the update:
“Well it’s been a lonely day for me today, Mand and Matt have both been off, Bob and James have been elsewhere.
Bob has been up in networks today continuing to write service status posts and handling the change control process.
James has been looking after the CS team, answering any questions they have and he’s also managed to keep up a forum presence.
I’ve been sat on the comms desk all on my own answering any queries thrown my way, I’ve also been answering CSC tickets and wandering around the forums.
Have a good night, it’s Friday tomorrow ;)”
Martyn brings us the update from “Marketing”:
“Today we’ve been focused on our work to improve the Broadband Your Way sales journey. We’re at early stages with this one, so we’ve been drawing flowcharts on whiteboards and starting to put wireframes together. We’ve also been analysing current conversion rates and clickthrough rates to help us decide where improvements can be made.
Chris has been busy filling in some very hefty surveys, while Phil has returned from a well earned break so he’s been catching up on what’s happened over the last couple of weeks.”
Paul brings us an update from the Basement, sorry Development:
“There is a buzz around the Development floor today. A growing, throbbing feeling of trepidation, nay, giddy excitement. Something big is coming. Very big and very important.
Our Xmas party! Everyone’s getting together tomorrow evening to celebrate and do the traditional festive thing. It’s a fancy dress event with a TV/movie theme. Blue jeans and trainers are prohibited, which is like prohibiting the wearing of suits at a bank’s party, so many of us are going to have to use our imagination.
If you were a fly on the wall at the PlusNet party, what kind of things would you see? What do geeks wear when they’re letting their hair down? I asked around and got; Robin and Marian, a famous Hungarian, Marilyn Monroe, The Stig, Jay and Silent Bob, someone “fancy enough as themselves” and a few “subversives” in non-blue jeans. Mostly, though, people are wearing suits - how ironic is that?
It’s shaping up to be a great night of fun and frolics. I can’t wait! Oh, and there’s this Madasafish thing going on as well, but I don’t need to say much about that. What is there to say? We’re PlusNet - we deliver.”
(Ed: Anyone remember the various discussions in the forums about what was written around the wall in the old building?)
Back to our usual Products correspondent, Darren:
“It’s been a good day today in Products (no, not because Ian was having a half day). Most of the team attended the Weekly Traffic Management Meeting hosted by our very own Dave and had a one to one with Maria. I have been working on a hardware reporting issue, handing work over to Shaun in prep for my holiday next week and going through Homephone reports.
Shaun has been working on new project reporting requirements, dashboard amendments and has been prep’d for handover work for my so called “outrageous” holiday next week (and he’s having the day off tomorrow!!!!).
Rich has been working on the VoIP platform and in particular working with trialists on the current Beta.
Dave has been doing prep work for the Weekly Traffic Management Meeting, ellacoya usage meeting, planning his next blog, updating ellacoya knowledge base for csc, tickets, looking at Tiscali users and even more usage data. “
Nigel from QA brings us the QA update:
“Another day in QA with staff shortage, so it’s been extra crayzeee!
Matt R has been off sick, and Gavin went home early afternoon, following his early morning rollout of some network changes.
Gary has been busy testing tariff price changes to Home Phone, whilst Paul has yet again been mixing it up with handling problems and assisting the rest of us with the ongoing hectic testing of Madasafish.”
Josh from Networks updates us:
“The networks team is a bit thin on the ground today after a raft of successful rollouts and changes overnight.
In the development team our focus continues to the on the work required for the Madasafish project with their existing systems being documented and updated.
The operations team has also been involved in this process and getting the platform ready for a lot of work over this weekend. On top of that they continue to keep tickets and problems well under control.
Josh”
That’s it for the updates. Needless to say, many people are looking forward to the Christmas Party tomorrow night.
Colin
