End of Day: 27th November

November 27th, 2007 at 18:03 by Colin Ogilvie

Tuesday’s come and gone, and the nights seem to be getting shorter… but we’re ploughing on with our work.

Chris from the CSC brings us today’s update:

“40% – Sales calls, Lots of new people calling for further information on the products we have on offer. Potential customers have been handed information from friends and family who have been to uSwitch for the best deals and wanting clarification on what they will get.

20% – Fault updates, The usual suspects. Customers calling with additional information for their open fault or for further details on what to do next.

20% – House moves, Had a few customers asking questions about a potential move, costs attached, will referrals still stay, will the product remain the same etc. Had some customers requesting updates to open house moves.

5% – Router configuration. Customers wanting some help with getting the router setup for the first time.

5% – E-mail setup. Following up from the router configuration setting up Outlook for new users and explaining the e-mail services available against the account.

10% – Other issues”

Mike from Networks brings us the update from the top floor:

“Hi there, Mike from the Networks team. Here is a list of what a random sample of us have been up to today:

I’ve been working on some IWF-related project documentation.

Carl has been connecting up the Madasafish network to our own.

Sarah has been preparing change controls and preliminary work for some out of hours work later this week.

Dan has been ploughing through tickets.

Rizwan has been working on change controls, clearing old tasks, and trying to stay awake (after a heavy week of out-of-hours oncall work).

Ben has been working on some backend scripting with relation to our DNS system.

Michael has been working on our staging platform in relation to Madasafish.

Duncan has been working on a RADIUS problem.

Josh has been deploying some kit for the IWF project I’m working on, which involves him being onsite at one of our PoP’s in London.

That’s all for today, short and sweet, here’s to hoping that Wednesday brings a less savage workload :-)

Cheers,
Gricey.”

QA’s update comes from Catherine:

“There’s a quiet, determined hum in QA today as we all concentrate on – you guessed it – Madasafish. Even Paul has been taken off problems to concentrate on the Help section!

Gavin has been wrestling the billing monster. It’s tenacious, but we think he’s winning. Perhaps his QA skills are like a shield of steel?

I asked Matt B what he’d been working on today and he told me that he’d been working with Karol on their troupe of dancing elephants. (He really did!)

Paul has been working hard with Dmitry, one of our many code ninjas.

I’ve been cracking down on faults and catching up on the build up of emails and alerts after being away for a few days.

And Gary has been hungering after his beloved Nik Naks. The deliberate shortage of his favourite snack has led him to try to console himself with bacon flavour Wheat Crunchies, but it’s just not the same. (He’s also been looking at the Madasafish phone packages.)”

Dancing elephant’s… it’ll be just like having the builders back again!

With Marketing’s update, it’s Martyn:

“We’ve got one of our team members back in the office, so the marketing desk is a slightly less lonely place today. We’ve once again been working on print ads for a forthcoming Broadband Your Way Pro promotion – they’re nearly finished now, so tomorrow should bring something new.

I’ve also been looking at an upcoming press release and we’ve been busy, as always, with our affiliate and search engine marketing campaigns. We’ll be back same time same place tomorrow, when hopefully Chris will be here to tell us tales of his long weekend in Prague.”

James is bringing us the Comms update today:

“It’s been a pretty hectic day in Comms. I’ve been along to a couple of meetings whilst also fulfilling my role within the Community Site, actioned a few tickets that I’ve been handling and decided to answer a few calls. Because I can!

Matt’s been doing pretty much the same, popping up in forums and handling some tickets and calls. He’s also sent out the weekly max upgrade email.

Mand’s barely been at her desk. as well as managing our internal problem process, she’s also been dealing with a number of enquiries as a result of our Direct Marketing campaign.

Bob, presumably to avoid making tea, has been hiding upstairs with Networks again, reviewing a number of change controls, making a couple of service status posts and playing an active role in monitoring the Gradwell VoIP Beta.

Until tomorrow. Bonsoir.”

Seb from the Dev team:

“Right, what’s going on in Dev recently. Most of the guys are focused on bug fixing and are trying to deliver the Madasafish project on time. It’s hot in here so air conditioning is working hard to cool us down.

Me personally – I’ve been working on a P1 problem related with payments that is nearly live now, and in a meantime I am doing some Direct Debit integration stuff. Boring but necessery. That’s it I think… for now”

Mark from the Finance team:

“Its been another busy day in finance today. I was back from my illness so was catching up with invoices and cheque payments. Mark and Kate have been working on both payroll and Mad as a fish.

James has been looking at inter-company issues and month end preparation. Alex has been carrying on with ADACS processing and also helping with the cheques.

Jen and Nick have been working on tickets.

Total tickets closed today 127.

Until tomorrow Plusnetters”

Ian from Products has delivered the following for the team:

“Darren’s got a day off, so we’ve had to cope without him. It’s not been fun. Getting over it though, we managed to make a lot of progress on our VOIP trial, which after a scary few moments is going really well now. Dave has been authoring a new masterpiece for the blog.

We also all met to discuss the best approach towards a number of customers who are using 50GB+ off peak on our Broadband Plus product (Which has a limit of 50GB). Shaun (have I spelt it right Caig) spent his day covering for Darren but also managed to make some dashboard changes and has worked on a problem with the business sign-up process, which isn’t sending our the hardware it should be doing (As in, none at all!).”

That’s it for today…

Tuesday’s come and gone, and the nights seem to be getting shorter???

Surely that should be that the days are getting shorter - or at least that the portion of the day that is not dark is getting shorter?

Colin

Err, yeah. It should have been... it's been a long week so far :)
