End of Day: October 23rd

October 24th, 2007 at 11:03 by James

End of another day and it’s absolutely flown! I just looked at my watch and hadn’t realised quite how quickly this afternoon had disappeared. Winter is definitely starting to rear its ugly head and it’s almost dark outside, but here we are with our next set of daily updates.

Today in the CSC we have been working as normal without too many different and crazy things going on. I expect this to change on the 31st when Halloween comes around!

The Top 5 Issues for contacting our Support Centre have been:

  1. Router Setup - Largely customers who have migrated in and customers who are unaware how to work their equipment. The remainder seem to be customers who may not realise we have setup guides on our Help and Support Centre.
  2. Email setup - Mainly new customers who prefer to speak to agents to set up their email software.
  3. Fault updates - Mostly connection issues such as loss of synchronisation and dropping connections.
  4. Provisioning updates - A lot of customers calling regarding delayed orders. A lot of people haveg signed up before their phonelines are activated and then are being assigned a different phone number by their phone provider.
  5. Sales - Lots of new sales calls which may be linked to our newest award!

Catherine now, from our QA team

Hi folks, it’s Catherine in QA.

I must have done a good job last time because I’ve been nominated to do today’s EOD again :-D Today I want to talk a bit about what we do in QA, which stands for Quality Assurance. We work very closely with the developers to ensure every product and piece of code produced is as high a standard as possible. With eight of us and (with a quick count of who’s available in my Jabber window!) thirty two of them, that’s four developers for each team member, so as you can imagine, we’re always very busy. You might also imagine that relations between us and the developers would be a little uncomfortable since we are employed to critique their work, but we all appreciate that, in line with Linus’ Law ‘many eyes make all bugs shallow’ and so having a good QA team improves life for everyone.

Martyn, from Marketing:

So this is Tuesday and what have we done? Well, we’ve been working on the business newsletter, which is starting to take shape now. We’ve also been designing landing pages for some forthcoming promotions and Chris has been working on the PR schedule.

Our Web Analyst has been putting together his regular end of week reports, which we’ll be reviewing tomorrow. We’ve also been having a few discussions about branding and talking about our favourite websites.

(Another clearly imposter) James in Finance:

So another day comes to an end in finance and true to form it has been another busy day for everyone.

Mark has been working on a report we use to allocate receipts from DD’s and credit cards. Kate has started working on payroll and I have continued working on a project connected to revenue.

Mike and Magda have continued their work on the strat plan.

And finally … I discovered today that I have missed out on some chocolate cakes that were lurking in the department .. gutted.

Dave, from Products (formerly of Comms):

Darren - More Halloween Work. Hardware Forecasting. Competitor analysis for Homephone. Daily Reports. Rubbing my new point blank highscore score in Nick Silverwood’s face.

Maria - Well it’s been a day for variety of things. Looking at the current market performance and the numerous ideas that we have on our ideas/opportunities list. I have also being reviewing our current development plan with our Development team. Carrying out some of the teams 1:1’s and reviewing the current VoIP plan with Rich.

Shaun - Catching up after a day off sick, dashboard reporting, churn analysis, conversations around the building on various project work.

Dave - Meeting about the broadband platform maintenance tomorrow and preparing a traffic management configuration should there be any problems. Product delivery meeting. Processing port requests for customers. Continue latest blog.

Rich - Very busy day with VoIP and the product delivery meeting.

Ian - Planning, product delivery meeting, looking at the future of advanced webhosting (I’m sure he’d appreciate any feedback or suggestions).

A rather dehydrated Chris from Comms:

Welcome to the Comms update for the EOD post. Today has been an interesting one with a few problems appearing from this mornings rollout and just the general day to day problems that working for an ISP involves.

Bob has spent his day sat up in networks writing service status posts, planned maintenance announcements but still not making a cuppa!

Mand has been running around for problem updates and has had what seems like an endless queue of people asking for help at her desk, she didn’t make me a cuppa either :(

James has been preparing some comms to go out later this week and has kept on top of forum posts whilst also not managing to make tea.

I’ve written a couple of planned maintenance posts too and have been trying to contact some of our customer on BBYW Pro that still haven’t claimed their free game. All this with no tea.

So that’s it for today. We’ll all be back for tomorrow’s midweek madness!

Enjoy your evenings.

James
