End of Day: October 19th

October 19th, 2007 at 18:03 by James

So, we reach the end of another week and with that I’ll be offering another piece of useless trivia. According to the French Calendar proposed during the French Revolution, today would be National Tomato day. Now, I’m no fan of tomatoes and actually believe they are evil. Arsenal play in red. I rest my case.

We kick off with the CSC Top 5, curteousy of Phil:

Today the Top 5 Issues for contacting the CSC have been:

1. Existing Faults 25% - We have a steady inlux of people requesting updates on faults already raised.

2. Router Config 20% - New routers, needing confirmation of the settings needed for the new equipment.

3. Sales queries 20% - We have a good number of people calling us and asking about the current packages.

4. New Faults 20% - There is a flow of people having connection issues (this is a mixture of existing customers and new connections.

5. Failed Billing 15% - Visa Electron not being accepted which is being worked on internally.

Moving swiftly on to Martyn, in Marketing:

Marketing are jubilant today, after cleaning up in the ‘In The Pink’ fun. Our crack team of brainboxes won the quiz, and Chris’s outfit helped him claim the “Most Original In The Pink Costume” prize (although it’s been suggested that should have been “Most Disturbing In The Pink Costume”). You might have noticed our ‘In The Pink’ logo over on the PlusNet site too. [Ed. Interestingly the eMarketing Manager walked in halfway through the quiz, mobile in hand. Draw your own conclusions!]

Away from the charity fundraising fun we’ve been busy preparing for the LAN party tomorrow. We’ve also been doing more analysis on the effectiveness of our sales pages, thanks to some number crunching from our Web Analyst. I’ve also been writing some emails that will be sent in the next couple of weeks.

Products now,with everyone’s favourite. It’s Darren!

Today Products were all pinky and perky showing our support for Breast Cancer Awareness (Myself wearing a very pink shirt and some very bright socks). There was a very heroic Pool battle between James Bailey of comms and our very own Ian Wild, the prize on offer was “Who gets Dave Tommo in their Quiz team” and fortunately for us Ian won. [Ed. He cheated]

Me: Today I have manually upgraded customers to the wonders of Max speeds. I have also been researching hardware components for the future and even more Halloween prep.

Sean: Chasing up problems that caused yesterdays MIS outage, weekly operations meeting where we review the weeks business and issues that have arisen, End Of Week Products meeting, churn analysis and “In The Pink” quiz (don’t get me started on how many people played James Bonds in films - “official” was NEVER mentioned!!!). [Ed. It's also the open Championship, not the British Open]

Dave: Today I have finished my blog on Gaming, reviewed the latest port/signature request updates and passed on the network team, Contacting customers that may have a virus, Traffic management database audit; routine check to see that all the customers are on the correct speed profiles for their account types (they are) that they have the right included usage (they did) and that all types of traffic are being correctly prioritised.

Rich: VOIP; awaiting contract to be signed so we can begin the VoIP trial scheduled for early November (ironing out contractual terms). Adjusted roadmap to reflect lengthened trial period (as per discussions with Finance). Created survey for pre-trial period - awaiting sign off and begun to detail the manual processes involved for the trial period.

Finance, with Niki:

Well, it’s been yet another busy day (nay week!) here in finance.

We’re are now back to full strength - no illness hooray!

Nick has managed to clear 233 tickets today, Magda and Mike have been putting the final touches to the Strat plan (still?!?!?). Kate has been completing the supplier payments and James (who was wearing a rather striking Pink Feather Boa!!) has been completing the intercompany reconciliations.

And finally.. yes today has been ‘In the Pink’ day (this explains the feather boa..no?!), I have been organising todays events and have finally found my niche as Quizmaster.

Watch this space for further shocking evidence of our fantastic outfits!

Content now, with Colin:

Today in the Web Team, we’ve been ‘In the Pink’ for Breast Cancer (like most of our colleagues) and even ended up with our picture on the Community Site …. althoguh it was only just one from the Webcam!

Our push on getting things live started this morning with rolling out the Beta Logo - the process started before I’d even left the house - and has continued with rolling out other problem fixes to the live platform.

The design team (and Colin) also participated in the ‘Pink Quiz’ that was run this afternoon - and we actually managed to answer questions (We got the James Bond answer right, Shaun).

Now Graeme, from Development:

Friday at last! A really busy week for Development, with major updates to our framework and a big push on some major upcoming projects.

How do I know this? We’ve just held our “Friday Stand-up”. Late afternoon every Friday we take 20 mins to down-tools and reflect on the past week. It’s a chance us to give a quick update on where projects are at, as when we’re all working hard it can be easy to lose track of what other teams are doing.
We also take time to recognise those in the team who’ve gone the extra mile this week. Anyone can nominate a colleague and tell the whole team why. It’s part of our culture to lend a hand, but it’s important that it’s recognised and rewarded too. I’m always amazed at just how many great examples of this there are every week… I love that Plusnet team spirit!

Graeme Fraser
Development Team Manager / Teaboy

We end today with a Comms update from myself:

We’ve all been pretty today and it’s been meetingtastic! Whilst Chris has been camped upstairs in Networks, we’ve all been to various meetings. Bob’s been prepping some email comms for most of the day aswell as trying to fix his new computer for tomorrow (apparently he didn’t know that he had to plug in his heatsink), Mand’s been working on problems and we’ve all been dipping into the forums as well as coming awfully close to the “Pink Quiz” but falling short at the final hurdle. Maybe next year.

And so, on we travel to our wealth of Friday night frivolities and we’ll be back bright eyed and bushy tailed on Monday morning. If you’re coming tomorrow for the LAN Party, good luck and don’t forget to laugh at Bob!

Enjoy your weekend.
