End of Week: October 12th

October 12th, 2007 at 18:12 by James

So here we are again.  The end of yet another busy week in the fabled lands of PlusNet Towers. We’ve all got that Friday feeling and looking forward to putting our feet up for a couple of days!

So, without further ado, please allow me to give you the final daily updates for the week:

A rather enthusiastic Mark (he can already taste his first pint) from Marketing:

Yay, it’s the weekend and following a busy week in the marketing team we’re getting ready for some Friday night light refreshment. ;)

Today we have examined the sales journey on our Business pages and are currently scoping the work required to revise these.

We finalised some details for the upcoming LAN party on 20 October.

We organised the fantastic rewards for the first 100 people to sign up for our BBYW Pro product.

We have continued to work on our forthcoming direct marketing campaign and some new banners for the portal.

We’re looking forward to a cracking weekend and we”ll be bright eyed and bushy tailed on Monday morning ready to get stuck right back into it.

Chris, from Comms now:

Today has been another busy day for the guys and gal of comms.

James has been beavering away in the forums and working on personal tickets, in between this he has also had time to write a couple of business proposals.

Mand has been working on tickets, problems, change controls, project updates and home phone training (you trying to show us up?).

Some of you may remember a while ago Bob decided to throw his food across the floor, well he was at it again today, only this time it was my empty tray and plate that went flying. When he wasn’t causing a mess Bob was found up in networks working on email service status updates and arranging for another email to be sent to customers about the next round of postal strikes. He’s also been investigating a few problems and looking into writing some comms on the VoIP platform.

Then there is me. I’ve been feeling ill all day and have drank many many lemsips :( . In between feeling sorry for myself I’ve actually managed to get quite a lot done today including network change controls, task work, personal tickets and of course finalising plans for the LAN Party on the 20th.
Have fun and see you next week.

Development, from Seb:

It’s been a very busy time since we’ve changed our payware provider. As always when we’re dealing we third-party software there is always a pain so dealing with all sort of problems related with that software was pretty challenging.

Fortunately not many of them where affecting our customers so I think we handled the change pretty well and practically transparently.

There are still some problems and bugs outstanding but it should stabilize next week so I hope to start working on a different project.

Ohh.. and there is another thing, a change in Dev. We’re moving the whole department into dungeons…. I mean bottom floor. It’s a good change regarding October 31th. Halloween is coming boyz and girlz, yeah….. It’s gonna be funny ;)

Ian (surprisingly quiet) from Products:

A somewhat depleted product team today, with two of our five on leave and one on an early finish (So I’ve no idea what Darren has been up to).

Rich and I have mainly been working on the final pieces of the voip contract and covering the meetings that everyone else left for us while they swanned off on holiday. Am I jealous? Er yep.

Finance and another Mark:

Its been busy busy busy in fiance today. Myself and Jen have been working through the mass of tickets getting them down to 61 from over 200. Mark has been signing cheques all day and James has been working on reconciling last months profit & loss accounts.

Commercial team are continuing thier stupendous work on the strat plan. So its goodbye from finance, have a good weekend.

Today in the Web Team, Pete tells us that the guys have mostly been working on horribly snaggly problem fixes. Development work has included, a new project overview tool for internal use, but most of those not fixing problems have been supporting larger project work.

In a fabulous display of uber-geekness, someone who shall remain nameless, when overhearing the Design team discussing their favourite colours, could only describe a colour he liked by it’s hex code.

Finally, Craig, from the CSC:

  1. Fault updates – Blend of customers calling about faults because we have phoned/sms.
  2. Raising faults – Mainly authentication and no synchronisation with the odd intermittent with speed faults mainly being customers who have exceeded their usage allowances
  3. Hardware setup – Alot of people struggling to set up the wireless and incorrect settings ie missing @plusdsl.net
  4. Awaiting start – The occasional authentication problem where our servers take a little time to start the connection.
  5. Sales – Not as hectic as usual but still coming through.

So, that’s it from me and the rest of the team.  Have a very pleasant weekend :)

James
