Attendees of FOWA at the start of the month may remember the end of Paul Graham’s keynote speech about startup hubs when Ryan Carson jumped up on stage and contradicted everything Paul had just been saying — to thunderous applause! Well there’s been a bit of a back and forth since then that makes some interesting reading. More…

The world is changing and changing at a very rapid pace. We are moving towards a world where just about anything and everything is online.
There are more ways of getting online than ever before, you are no longer restricted to a desktop PC connected to a phone line with a cable. Hundreds of thousands, probably millions of households and businesses now have wireless routers. Every new laptop sold these days has built in wireless. There are wireless hotspots all over the country and around the world with potentially hundreds of thousands more thanks to services like FON.
Mobile phones are increasingly seeing more Internet capabilities with built in WiFi, web browsers and video streaming like the forthcoming (to the UK) iPhone.
And we aren’t stopping there with the Internet ready devices. There’s the obvious things like games consoles like the Wii, alarm clocks with streaming Internet radio rather than FM but have you come across the Internet fridge?
It’s Monday (unfortunately) and we’re back working hard. More…
As reported in The Times last weekend, many people on 18 month TalkTalk contracts will see these coming to an end during the winter months. The good news is that once this happens they will be moved to a rolling monthly contract, and should be free to leave with only 30 days notice. The better news is that if TalkTalk are notified in writing with at least 30 days notice prior to the contract’s end (please see section 10 of this PDF document), customers can migrate to another provider with no further payments or penalties!
Do you know someone looking to leave TalkTalk? Have you told them what PlusNet has to offer? Do you know about our new referrals promotion?
Given the way that Internet usage is changing (and increasing!) so dramatically, now is an ideal time to recommend us - especially given the £30 referral bonus! More…
We’re pleased to announce that we will be making some changes to our Home Phone packages later this week.
The most significant of these is a drop in the subscription price of our Evening and Weekend and Anytime 240 package to just £9.99 per month. Coupled with our Broadband Your Way Option 1 packages this means that you can have line rental, inclusive Evening and Weekend calls and upto 8MB broadband with 1GB bandwidth included for £19.98 a month!
The new price points mean that our product is more competitive than BT, Talk Talk and Sky for their equivalent products:
BT - Together Option 2 - £13.95
Talk Talk - Talk 2 - £13.89
Sky - Freetime - £10 but requires Sky TV (packages start at £16 per month plus connection fee)
In addition to the changes listed above we will be making some changes to call charges across all of our Home Phone products. The other changes are outlined below:
- 01/02 calls will be charged at a flat rate of 3p per minute (for chargeable calls only, i.e. outside of your allowance).
- The cost of calls to 0845/0870 numbers will be cut, e.g. daytime calls will change from 3.5p per minute to 2p per minute.
- Calls to other PlusNet Home Phone customers will be free!
We will be emailing all existing Home Phone customers later this week to detail exactly how the changes will affect you, so watch out for the details.
Regards
Mand
