New Opt In/Out Options

August 8th, 2007 at 10:01 by Chris Cotterill

We are currently working on a project to increase the amount of opt in/out options that you have in your email preferences. At present you have one choice – you either receive marketing communications from us or you don’t.

We send a variety of information to our customers who have opted in to communications and want to make it possible for you to have more control over what you receive from us.

So, do you want information on special offers but nothing else? Do you only want to read our newsletter? Do you want to pick and choose which types of email we send you?

Soon you will be able to specify exactly what you want to receive. Let us know which different options you would like to see and we’ll do our best to make it happen.

I see no need to receive an advice each month of my monthly payment to PN

It's always good to have as much choice as possible, if for nor other reason than that we all have different needs and wants! I'm happy to get all comms going - but I don't have loads of email to plow through like some others do.

I was thinking in an ideal world, I would like to see options in one place for the following:

Status:
Service Status, by Category
"Problems on my exchange"
Community site news, with sub-options for tags

Account Specific
Billing and My Referallel updated
PDF Invoice
Usage alert @ 80% (or similar) of usage allowance used
Ticket received / ticket responded to emails

Marketing
Updates on new PlusNet products and services
Plus+ - The monthly newsletter
Relevant offers from our partners (eg Fring want to offer our customers special access to their service).

Mandatory (can't opt-out)
Welcome emails / instructions
Updates on changes to your product / T&Cs
Outstanding balance / failed billing information
Contact from abuse team / customer support relating to account.

That's a sizable list, and would take a few steps to get to, but in an ideal world we might also be able to allow different email addresses to be set for different types - Would that be a useful feature?

I'm with lucerne on this. Only interested in payment E-Mails if something goes wrong.

Mandatory list would seem reasonable.

What the hell is Fring?

Can you opt out key words or groups ( The Sex ads word and pills) as well, i.e. viagra - sending them to spam but they still get through.

mutterer

Looked up Fring.

I'm a Luddite, still using BT wired handsets.

I would only like to receive essential information from PN by email and not marketing woffle. I'd make an exception for a infrequent newsletter though.

I personally find getting 2 monthly E-mail payments and 2 referal E-mails a little over the top, perhaps one will do.Apart from that I like to get other info from PN makes me feel one of the gang.

I would expect to be able to opt in to "service status" issues yet not have to have marketing crap. Currently what is there to opt in/out of ? ... "special offers, promotions and services", and thats it. So presumably if you opt out of that then you will never know if there is some service issue ... like PNet deleting hours worth of emails for example ... unless you happen by the website. This is basic stuff. When will it be available ?

Hi,

You can already get emailed service status updates by subscribing here: http://usertools.plus.net/status/email.php

Which is something about 15,000 people do. The same site also offers an RSS feed of service issues. This will be made more apparent on our portal when the new service status tool is rolled out. Details of that can be found here: http://community.plus.net/webportal/2007/03/06/new-service-status-tool/

Thx, but the "service status update" is a bucket, not just including all categories (which I'm not interested in many of them, but you noted a category selector earlier anyway) but also would be preferable to have a subscribe option on severity. So for example I could subscribe to "severe" issues only (or something).

Like Ted31 above, I get two of each too which is unnecessary :(

I'd like to be able to divert billing issues to a different mailbox as I look after the router but my boss pays the bill, also reduce the frequency of the "Successfully taken payment" emails to a quarterly "All's well" message.
