About the Community Site

Welcome to our brand new Community Site! After four months we’re finally freeing Community of its ‘Beta’ status and have made the Portal Forums read-only. Community is about bringing together customers of our four brands: PlusNet, Force9, Free-Online and Metronet, allowing us to focus our efforts on one central community-orientated resource; sharing the knowledge more intelligently and allowing all customers access to a valuable hub of information and discussion.

Community was launched in the spirit of openness for which PlusNet strives. Over the last few months we’ve been populating our Staff Blogs and we’ll be adding to these in the coming months. In addition, we have plans to further develop the Community Site to add a host of new features all with Community involvement being the objective. Read on for some of the ideas we have!

Why we are doing this

  1. A lot of effort is duplicated between the portal forums. People could be asking the same question on different forums which means that the knowledge of the different vISP users is not shared. We hope this will enable us to more effectively interact with our customer base.
  2. We have plans to expand the site, to enable customers to create their own blogs, etc.

To find out more about why we’re doing this and what will happen to the old forums Read the FAQ here!

How to get involved

Simple! Head over to the registration page and click the relevant link for your Member Centre. From there, you’ll be able to select a Community username and password which is separate from your account details, but linked back to your account. The Community Site is only available to customers of PlusNet, Force9, Free-Online or Metronet - if you’re not a customer, why not see what else we offer and consider switching to us?

What are the future plans for the Community Site?

We have lots of ideas, but would love some customer contributions and suggestions. The Community Site, after all, should not just be about what we think!

  • Staff and Customer Blogs
  • OpenID authentication
  • A community news service, with RSS, on the homepage.
  • Chat System for PlusNet customers
  • Support groups UseNet Reader
  • More PlusNet Webcams
  • Public knowledgebase tool (For later development by the community).
  • Public URL Book marking / rating tool
  • Customer survey tool
  • Simple front page vote/poll
  • More interactive features
  • Anything else anybody thinks of ?
