The Web Portal Team

2007 at 17:28 by cblack

This is the blog of the PlusNet Web Portal Team, to keep people informed about what we are up to… especially since one of our big goals this year is PlusNet Transparency.

This blog gives you a view of what we are up to, and should hopefully be updated a couple of times a week. It might sometimes be more often, if we have something interesting to say though :)

Who are we?

The main people posting on this blog will be Cameron Black, Kelly Dorset, Colin Ogilvie and Tamlyn Rhodes. We don’t, however, make up the entire Web Portal Team as we are backed up by the Online Support Team and Designers.

Kelly Dorset
Who am I? Today my job title is “Head of Online Production and Quality Assurance”. It’s likely to change again in a week or two as that is fairly normal for PlusNet!

I’ve done quite a number of roles throughout the project development side of the business, from managing developers, business analysts and network engineers before picking up this role. In short, my teams are responsible for the implementation of our portal front end, so this site, the portal and tools within etc., as well as the testing of every change to the live platform via the Quality Assurance team.

More about me: I’ve had a web page since before I went to University (’94-’95!) it being this monstrosity and as a result I’m all over Google if you look hard enough. I used to be a coder and still mostly speak the lingo, but I’m most interested in the application of the technologies, rather than the implementation nowadays.

Anyway, I’m always up for talking about this sort of stuff, so feel free to drop me a blog comment to get in touch.

Colin Ogilvie

My involvement in PlusNet is probably as long as Cameron’s, although the majority of that time has been ‘on the other side of the fence’ so to speak, firstly as a PAYG Dialup Customer, then as a Broadband Account Holder.

I’ve also been involved as a Portal Forum Moderator, Author of the Service Status stuff on Usertools and a member of the PlusNet Usergroup.

My main role in the Web Portal Team is to work on quick fixes, which means I should not get bogged down in too many large projects. I am also going to be working on making the Web Portal Team have more interaction with the customers and acting on some of the small, quick fixes from the PlusNet Usergroup Issue Tracker to improve the customer’s experience of the portal.

Tamlyn Rhodes

I joined PlusNet in January 2007. I’m mainly involved in improving usability and driving improvements to portal user experience but I also do a bit of JavaScript & PHP as necessary. I live in London and work three days a week for PlusNet and two days a week on other freelance projects. This allows me to maintain a critical external view on the portal and also explore new technologies and how they can help us.
